Abstract:
PURPOSE: An array antenna base station reception system and a method thereof are provided to estimate beamforming weight at a chip level instead of a symbol level, and to share a correlation reverse matrix between fingers, thereby simplifying a hardware structure necessary for estimating the beamforming weight. CONSTITUTION: A multi-channel down-converter(100) converts wireless frequency signals received to each antenna(111) into digital reception signals, and outputs the digital reception signals. A correlated reverse matrix estimator(200) operates a correlated reverse matrix applicable to a beamforming process of all fingers by using chip level data obtained from the digital reception signals. A finger portion(300) shares the correlated reverse matrix as correlating the digital reception signals with a reference signal, estimates correlation vectors by finger, and performs beamforming/despreading processes by consisting of the fingers. A multiplying portion(400) multiplies the correlated reverse matrix by the correlation vectors, operates beamforming weight, and transmits the beamforming weight to the finger portion(300).
Abstract:
PURPOSE: An array antenna system in a wireless communication system is provided to maintain the same power levels of reception signals during a beam forming process of the reception signals, and to use power ratio information of the reception signals when forming transmission beams, thereby magnifying transmission and reception performance. CONSTITUTION: A signal converter(300) amplifies an RF signal through array antennas(310_1-310_n), down-converts an RF to an IF to convert the IF into a digital signal, and outputs the digital signal to a baseband unit(400). The signal converter(300) receives an IF signal from the baseband unit(400), converts the IF signal into an analog signal, up-converts the analog signal to an RF signal, and wirelessly transmits the RF signal. The baseband unit(400) generates beam forming signals having the same power levels by using the signal outputted from the signal converter(300), performs a combining/decoding process, and outputs a final signal to a digital demodulator. The baseband unit(400) modulates a channel-coded signal for an input signal of the digital demodulator, based on power ratios of the beam forming signals, generates transmission beam forming signals, and outputs the transmission beam forming signals to the signal converter(300).

PURPOSE: A reference signal generation device and a method therefor and a smart antenna base station system based on chip level beam former using the same and an operating method therefor are provided to generate a reference signal according to a channel estimator and a chip level beam former by using a decision-directed mode, thereby increasing system capacity and base station ranges by exactly performing channel estimating and beam forming processes. CONSTITUTION: An RF receiver(102) converts a received signal into a digital baseband signal. A multi path searcher(103) inputs the digital baseband signal to detect multi paths, and estimates delay time for the multi paths. A chip level beam former(105) calculates a chip level beam forming weight vector, and multiplies the vector to an input signal vector of an array antenna(101). A despreader(106) performs despreading processes on the multi paths, and separates a DPDCH(Dedicated Physical Data Channel) from a DPCCH(Dedicated Physical Control Channel). A channel estimator(107) estimates channels up to the array antenna(101). A channel compensator(108) compensates DPDCHs and DPCCHs of each rake finger(104). A rake synthesizer(109) synthesizes the DPDCHs with the DPCCHs. Deciders(DPDCH,DPCCH)(110) decide symbols of the DPDCHs and the DPCCHs. A reference signal generator(111) generates a reference signal.
