Abstract: Polymer concrete electrical insulation system comprising a hardened epoxy resin composition filled with an electrically non-conductive inorganic filler composition, wherein said polymer concrete electrical insulation system optionally may contain further additives, and wherein (a) the epoxy resin composition is based on a cycloaliphatic epoxy resin; (b) the inorganic filler composition is present within the range of about 76 % by weight to about 86 % by weight, calculated to the total weight of the polymer concrete electrical insulation system; (c) the inorganic filler composition comprises a uniform mixture of (i) an inorganic filler with an average grain size within the range of 1 micron (µm) to 100 micron (µm) [component c(i)], and (ii) an inorganic filler with an average grain size within the range of 0.1 mm (100 micron) to 2 mm [component c(ii)]; wherein (d) the inorganic filler with an average grain size within the range of 1 micron (µm) to 100 micron (µm) [component c(i)] is present in an amount within the range of 22 % to 42 %, calculated to the total weight of the polymer concrete electrical insulation system; and (e) the inorganic filler with an average grain size within the range of 0.1 mm to 2 mm [component c(ii)] is present within the range of 41 % to 61 % by weight, calculated to the total weight of the polymer concrete electrical insulation system; and method of producing said electrical insulation system.

Abstract: The nonlinear resistor has varistor behaviour and has a matrix and a filler in powder form which is embedded in the matrix. The filler contains sintered varistor granules with predominantly spherical particles of doped metal oxide. These particles are made up of crystalline grains separated from one another by grain boundaries. The filler also contains electrically conductive particles, which cover at most a part of the surfaces of the spherical particles, and/or the varistor granules contain two fractions of particles with different sizes, of which the particles in the first fraction have larger diameters than the particles in the second fraction and are arranged essentially in the form of close sphere packing and the particles in the second fraction fill the interstices formed by the sphere packing.The resistor can be produced straightforwardly and cost-effectively and is distinguished by a high nonlinearity coefficient, which is desired for a good protection characteristic, and by a high power acceptance.

Abstract: The nonlinear resistor includes a sintered varistor granulate filler embedded in a matrix. The granulate is mainly crystalline, spherical particles made of metal oxide, separated from each other by grain boundaries. The filler also includes geometrically anisotropic conductive particles which cover part of the surface of the spherical particles. Also, the varistor granulate may contain two fractions of particles of different sizes, one fraction being of greater diameter than the other, and arranged tightly so that particles of the second fraction fill the holes.
