Abstract: In the prior art, sodium percarbonate is coated with compounds which produce a stabilizing action in order to increase the shelf life. There is a need for an improved, boron-free, coating for sodium percarbonate. Proposed by the invention is a particle coating containing sodium carbonate plus one or more optionally partly hydrated magnesium compounds, preferably magnesium sulphate, in a single coat or in separate coats. The coating preferably contains two coats. The particles are produced by spraying aqueous solutions containing the coating compounds on to sodium percarbonate in a fluidized bed and at the same time evaporating off the water. Their long shelf life makes particles coated in this way suitable for use in washing, bleaching and cleaning agents.

Abstract: Sodium percarbonate of the formula 2 Na2CO3 3 H2O2 can be produced by fluidised-bed spray granulation by spraying an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate and a hydrogen peroxide solution on sodium percarbonate seeds and evaporating water. The previously necessary use of phosphorus-containing crystallisation inhibitor to prevent blockages and incrustations in and on the nozzle can be avoided by the invention if the solutions are sprayed using a single three-substance pulverisation nozzle with the external mixing of the solutions.

Abstract: Sodium percarbonate is often used, in the form of encapsulated particles, in washing and cleaning agents in order to increase their shelf life. Sodium percarbonate particles encapsulated as proposed by the invention have an envelope containing the products of the reaction between a di-alkali-metal tetraborate or alkali-metal pentaborate and aqueous hydrogen peroxide. Preferred envelope components are perborax compounds of the formula Na2B4O7.nH2O2 in which n is 1 or 4. The encapsulated sodium percarbonate particles are produced by coating the percarbonate particles using a solution containing the specified reaction products. Washing, bleaching and cleaning agents containing sodium percarbonate particles encapsulated as proposed by the invention are characterized by their very long shelf life.

In contrast to previously known methods, according to the present invention a greater storage stability is attained with smaller quantities of perborate coating.

Depending on the process and throughput, a modular structural design is chosen wherein an arbitrary numbe r of wall elements (1) are assembled to a right-parallelepipedal block (24), t he reaction spaces (3) are formed between lateral surfaces (2) of right- parallelepipedal wall elements (1), the reactants are introduced into the reaction spaces (3) from edge regions of one side of the block (24) and are conducted through the reaction spaces (3) in parallel flows and the fluid he at- carrier is conducted through the tubular cavities (5) extending in the interior of the wall elements (1).
