    Abstract: A receiver device (703) downspreads signals from a band spreading signal, which generates downspread symbol sequences (803). A vector generator (704) generate symbol vectors (805) which include a symbol from each downspread symbol sequence (803). An auxiliary receiver (705) detects symbol vectors (805) in a first window (809) with the length of one symbol time. The auxiliary receiver (705) generates provisional estimates of the symbol vectors (805) with the help of a device with a first window algorithm (811). A delaying module (706) delays the symbol vectors (805) from the vector generator (704) by one symbol time before they reach a main receiver (707). The main receiver (707) detects in a second window (806) the symbol vectors (805) with the length of one symbol time. The main receiver (707) uses a device with a second window algorithm (808) in order to estimate the received symbol vectors (805) with reference taken to the previously estimated symbol vectors in the main receiver (705) and the provisional estimates of the symbol vectors (805) from the auxiliary receiver (705). A component generator (710) divides up the estimated symbol vectors (807) from the main receiver into separate components (815).

    Abstract: A system and method for improving the accuracy of a location estimation measurement within a telecommunication system is disclosed. During a cessation of transmissions by a local base transceiver system in communication with the mobile station, the mobile station communicates with other, more remote base transceiver systems and trilateration and other distance measuring techniques are employed to calculate the position of the mobile station in relation to those remote base transceiver systems. In another embodiment of the present invention, the local base transceiver system is also used to calculate the position. In still another embodiment, during a cessation of transmissions by the mobile stations in communication with a local base transceiver system, the local base transceiver system is better able to use remote mobile stations for trilateration.

    Abstract: A radio communications system includes a radio base station provided with an array antenna. The antenna lobes of the array antenna can be directed onto a terminal with the aid of a generated directional estimate. The directional estimate is based on a signal received from the terminal. A method registers a generated directional estimate together with a terminal recognition character. The directional estimate is read when the radio connection with the terminal changes channel. The antenna lobe is directed on the basis of the direction estimate, immediately communication commences over the new channel. A radio base station is equipped with a database in which the terminal recognition character and the direction estimate are registered.

    Abstract: The invention is concerned with a radio receiver station, a multi-user interference cancellation unit and a multi-user cancellation method in a system with several transmitting radio stations. In the method, a radio signal is received as a sum of the signals from at least two of the transmitting radio stations in the system. Interference from at least two of the transmitting radio stations is cancelled. The interfering signals from at least some of the transmitting radio stations are processed in at least two separate operations in one or more stages, the result of each separate operation being taken into consideration in the estimation of the desired modulated signal sent to the receiver. Preferably, a part of the interfering signals is processed in one of the separate operations, while the rest of the interfering signals are processed in the other separate operations. If the cancellation is carried out in more than one step, the cancellation results of the first cancellation stage are used in the second interference cancellation stage, the method being correspondingly continued in the possible further cancellation stages.

    Abstract: A radiocommunication system is described wherein a flexible transceiver (400 ) is provided that can be switchably connected to different antenna structures (450, 460). Switching matrices (490) are provided between the antenna elemen ts and the receive processing circuitry (420) which, under the control of the central processing unit (430), allows the transceiver to handle the differen t antenna structures. The enhanced flexibility achieved by the present inventi on provides a novel transceiver which can, for example, be reconfigured between and during calls to dynamically assign resources based upon changes in the amount and type of load being experienced by the system and adjusted in orde r to render existing operating functions more efficient.
