Abstract: A method of operating a wireless network node may include transmitting a first MIMO downlink communication to a wireless terminal according to a first MIMO rank, and receiving at least one HARQ ACK/NACK, message from the wireless terminal corresponding to the first MIMO downlink communication. A report may be received from the wireless terminal identifying a reported MIMO rank, and a second MIMO rank may be selected for a second MIMO downlink communication responsive to the at least one HARQ ACK/NACK message. The second MIMO downlink communication may be transmitted to the wireless terminal according to the second MIMO rank.

The base station comprises a mapping unit (702) for mapping Medium Access Control enhanced high speed, MAC-ehs, service data units, SDUs belonging to two different data streams of the at least three data streams to the same of the two different HARQ downlink processes. The MAC-ehs SDUs belonging to two different data streams are of equal size. Disclosed is also a corresponding method performed by a base station (130).

Abstract: An uplink common physical channel (random access channel) frame structure is disclosed with a separate preamble and data portion. The preamble is used by a base station to detect that a mobile station is attempting a random access request. The data portion of the channel includes user data, and pilot symbols that provide energy for channel estimation during reception of the data portion. A guard interval (TG) is preferably inserted between the preamble and data portion of the frame, which enables data detection to occur during an idle period. As such, the frame structures for both the common physical (random access) uplink channel and dedicated physical (traffic) uplink channel are compatible.

Abstract: The present invention relates to sectorization of a cellular CDMA-system. Each sectorized cell (CELL) in the CDMA-system comprises a number of antenna sectors (AS1-AS8) having overlapping regions. Each cell is allocated a number of at least two different pilot channels (P1, P2). Two antenna sectors having a common overlapping region are not allowed to use the same pilot channel. At least one of said pilot channels (P1, P2) are reused within the cell, by at least two antenna sectors with no common overlapping region. The antenna sectors that use the same pilot signal are constituting a logical sector (LS1, LS2). A mobile station can communicate with the base station in a cell by using one or more antenna sectors within one or more logical sectors. If a mobile station communicates with the base station within a number of antenna sectors within the same logical sector, no softer handoff is required between the antenna sectors.
