Abstract: The flat light source comprises a transparent plate (2) with an arrangement of point light sources (3) applied to one surface (2b) of the plate. Transparent conductors also provide heat dissipation, and a further plate provides collimation of light from the sources. Each point light source has a pair of electrodes, and a transparent electrically conducting layer provides an earth connection for one of the electrodes of each light source. This layer also provides dissipation of some of the heat generated by the light sources by thermal conduction through the layer. A second conductive layer connects in parallel the second electrodes of the light sources. A second plate (8) placed behind the light sources provides a system for collimation of the light. This plate may define a number of concave surfaces (7a) - one behind each of the point light sources.
