Abstract: A proxy server receives a request for content from a client machine. The proxy server retrieves the content from an originating server in a first format. If an increase in efficiency would be obtained by allowing the client to process the content in the first format prior to translating it into a second format, then the content is sent to the client in the first format. Furthermore, if the client does not have the software to process the content in the first format or convert the content into a second format, the proxy server also sends the processing or converting software to the client. The proxy server then translates the content from the first format into the second format and sends it to the client.

Abstract: The present invention enables content producers to selectively choose which content distributors may hyperlink to the content producer's website. The content producer provides an initial URL referencing a document on the content producer server to the content distributor. The content distributor creates an HTML file that contains the initial hyperlink URL that was given to the content distributor. The content distributor allows the content producer the privilege of updating the HTML file containing the initial hyperlink URL. The content producer may periodically access the content distributor server to replace the hyperlink with a new URL reference to the document. Because the hyperlink referring to a document is modified at the will of the content producer, the content producer controls the entities that can hyperlink to the document. As a side effect, the content producer may also determine which content distributor referred a client and may also keep records of such referral.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method, system, program, and data structures for ordering electronic files subject to searching. At least one keyword is associated with each file. A physical location of each file is identified by a file address, such as a URL. A popularity weight is associated with at least one file address and key word pair such that a file address is capable of having multiple associated keywords and one associated popularity weight for each file address and keyword pair. In response to executing a search query including search keywords, file address search results are received that have at least one associated keyword that matches at least one search keyword in response to executing the search query. The search results are ordered according to the popularity weight associated with each file address search result and keyword pair whose keyword matches the search keyword. A document is then coded to include the file address search results such that the document will display the file address search results according to the ordering.
