Abstract:
A method is provided for reformatting a web page that includes a number of hyperlinks. The page is received (814) by a browser, and before being presented is analyzed (826) to determine whether the hyperlinks meet vertical and horizontal spacing criteria. If the page is cluttered with hyperlinks (826), it is reformatted (830) and then presented (818). The reformatting may be done by introducing HTML tags (830) or using a cascading style sheet (928). Reformatting may also be done in response to a request submitted by a user (712) to the browser (708), to improve the appearance of the displayed web page.
Abstract:
Provided is a method, system, and program for analyzing data within a personal information management program. Position records are provided in a database for at least one user. Each position record includes a time period value and event information indicating an event that occurred with respect to the user during the time period. The time period value and event information in each position record is based on time information and position coordinates generated by a wireless device associated with the user that indicate a location of the wireless device for time periods. The database is queried to determine position records for one user that satisfy at least one search criteria. Information is generated characterizing data in the determined position records.
Abstract:
In a system and method for transferring information using a client/server network, link popularity information characterising the popularity of files linked to a requested file may be transmitted from a server to a client. The popularity may include the relative likelihood of a user request for each of the linked files. The link popularity information may be used in selecting only the more popular linked files for anticipatory caching. The files corresponding to the links most likely to be selected by a user may be loaded into the cache memory of the server and/or downloaded to the client, in advance of any link selection by the user. Ordering of files for anticipatory caching based on their popularity may provide a high probability that the file corresponding to a selected link is already stored on a client computer at the time the link is selected. The time between selection of the link by a user and viewing of the corresponding file may therefore be shortened. Because the most popular linked files are cached first, and less popular files may not be selected for anticipatory caching at all, the time and resources needed to perform the caching may also be reduced as compared to the case of anticipatory caching of all files linked to a requested file.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved network computer system, improved radio communication between network computer systems and improved communication between a comparatively expensive data processing system and a comparatively inexpensive data processing system. SOLUTION: Concerning a system, a method and a computer program product, with which a user can watch and navigate a contents reduced Web page through a wireless connection, when the user selects a specified Web page, the page is distributed to the user by a comparative inexpensive connection like a conventional cable Internet connection. The distribution is performed by several methods such as electronic mail message, 'push' distribution to the data processing system connected to the Internet or provision of series of hyper links for referring to a selected page to the cable Internet connection. Therefore, the user can watch the selected data on the second data processing system connected to the Internet while using a wireless data processing system connected to the Internet.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method which transcodes and transmits a data format through the web so as to minimize the transmission time of information in many different data formats. SOLUTION: When judging that it is more efficient that a client processes contents in 1st format before the contents in the 1st format are transcoded to a 2nd format, a transcoding proxy server sends the contents in the 1st format to the client. When software for processing the 1st format is necessary on the client side, the 1st format processing software is sent to the client together with the contents. Then the contents are transcoded to the 2nd format and sent to the client.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a transcoding processing system which performs semantic transcoding between a client and a server and makes document transmission possible. SOLUTION: The client 620 requests a specified document and offers settings including document readily understandable level setting, locale setting, contents filtering instruction setting, government regulation setting, natural language setting and document syntax format setting. A transcoding proxy 600 requests a document from an origin server 610 and receives the document having a transmission source semantic characteristics from the origin server. The transcoding proxy uses client semantic setting and corrects the document into a sequential or a parallel system. Then, the transmission source semantic characteristics of the document is modified to a semantic setting designated by the client.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method which filter contents according to the accessibility of the contents for a user. SOLUTION: The device and method use an evaluation tool which evaluates requested contents as to the accessibility for a user having special necessity, e.g. a disabled or physically handicapped user. The evaluation result is compared with a user indication of necessary accessibility level so as to determine whether the contents are easy for the user to use. When the evaluation result shows that the contents reach the necessary accessibility level of the user, the contents are provided for the user. When the evaluation result shows that the contents do not reach the necessary accessibility of the user, the contents are not provided for the user or an indicator showing that the contents are not easy to use is added to the contents. The contents can be corrected and made easy for the user to use.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize a method, a system, and a program for performing retrieval from a data repository to collect indexable meta data. SOLUTION: Settings which can be customized by a contents provider is accessed. The customized settings prescribe a method for retrieval from the data repository of the contents server. The contents of a contents page in the data repository of the contents provider are accessed according to instructions prescribed by the customized settings. Meta data are generated from the accessed contents page and added to the index of meta data for an accessed addressable location of the data repository.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, system, and program implemented by a wireless device to provide information on a scheduled event to a calendar database. SOLUTION: The wireless device receives a code and transmits the received code to a server including the calendar database having scheduled event records for the user of the wireless device. The wireless device receives from the server the scheduled event record including the information on one scheduled event associated with the code and renders calendar information at the wireless device including the information on the scheduled event included in the scheduled event record. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for enlarging the text of a link while holding a browser function on an enlarged display picture, and a program therefor. SOLUTION: A web browser expands the contents of entire pages in a memory and displays related parts having a hyper link within an expanding device. Next, the web browser maps the expanded display to an original document. Therefore, as a result of mouse operation on the expanded display picture, operation related to the original document occurs. Next, a user can select a link for navigation within the expanded display picture. Alternatively, the web browser analyzes an original web page and on the basis of any one of document object model in the expanded part, expandable markup language(XML) and hyper text markup language(HTML) expression, the contents of the expanding device can be configured.
