Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform printing excellent in heat-resistant storage stability and good in high speed followability, in a thermal transfer recording medium constituted by forming a coating layer containing at least one hot-melt ink layer on a base material, by adding fine particles having an average particle size larger than the average coating thickness of the coating layer to the uppermost layer of the coating layer. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal transfer recording medium wherein a coating layer containing at least one hot-melt ink layer 2 is formed on a base material 4, inorg. or org. fine particles 1 having an average particle size r1 larger than the average coating thickness alpha of the coating layer are added to the uppermost layer of the coating layer. As a result, printing excellent in heat-resistant storage stability, good in the resolving power to rough surface paper and improved in high speed followability can be performed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To perform many-time printing of high density by containing a vinyl type polymer and polyester both of which respectively have a specific range of I/O values, heat-meltable substance and a colorant in a heat-meltable ink layer as essential components. CONSTITUTION:As the vinyl type polymer whose inorg. value/org. value (I/O value) is 0.1 - 0.4 contained in a heat-meltable ink layer, an ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer (acrylic acid content : 3 - 11%) or an ethylene/methyl acrylate copolymer (methyl acrylate content : 5 - 23%) is designated. As polyester, one whose I/O value is 0.45 - 0.75 is adapted and a combination of ethylene glycohol/ sebacic acid or butadiene/sebacic acid is designated. As a heat-meltable substance, a compound with an m.p. of 100 deg.C or less such as beeswax, carnauba wax or Japan wax is designated and, as a colorant, any transferable colorant may be used.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal transfer recording medium imparting a transfer image superior in fastness to abrasion, by a method wherein a lubricating protective layer is provided between a substrate and a hot melt ink while the hot melt ink contains a specific low-crystallinity or amorphous resin in a hot melt binder more than a specific quantity. CONSTITUTION:A thermal transfer recording medium is composed by coating a hot melt ink on a substrate. A lubricating protective layer mainly composed of a wax is provided between the substrate and the hot melt ink, which contains 30 pts.wt. or more of a resin having a crystallinity as low as an endotherm caused by crystalline melting is not more than 10 cal/g or amorphous properties, a glass transition point of 30-100 deg.C, a softening point of 40-120 deg.C in 100 pts.wt. of a hot melt binder. If a transfer printing is conducted on a recording paper with the use of this thermal transfer recording medium, the surface of the transferred image is protected by the lubricating protective layer mainly composed of the wax with good slip properties and, additionally, has remarkably good fastness to abrasion such as rubbing and scratching because the hot melt ink layer has superior adhesion to the recording paper and contains the low- crystallinity or amorphous glass-form resin with high shear strength.
