Abstract: 1,205,725. Sewing-machines MEFINA S.A. 10 March, 1969 [5 April, 1968], No. 12416/69. Heading D1G. A free arm sewing machine has flaps 10, 18 which can be moved from a lower position in which the machine can be used to an upper position where they enclose the machine and further flaps 14, 15 which engage and extend the upper surface of arm 4 and can be moved to a second position where the free arm is exposed. In further embodiments the panels 8 may be fixed and the panels 15 hinged to the top thereof which may be at, below, or above the level of the surface 4. Alternatively the panel 8 may be hinged at the bottom and the panels 10, 15 formed as a single unit hinged at the top thereof to fold below the free arm. In a still further embodiment the flaps 15 may be supported on parallel links from the base 2 so that they can be moved down to the base 2 and remain in a horizontal position. In this case the flaps 8, 10 and 15 can be hinged at 11 or the flap 8 can be hinged to the base 2. As shown in Fig. 17, the flap 8 can be hinged at 28 with the flap 15 fixed in the horizontal plane. The flap 14 need not be hinged but can be mounted to move into a compartment (not shown) in the base 2. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,131,710.

Heading D1G A free arm sewing machine comprises a base having two individual longitudinal supports 7 on each side of the free arm 4 which connected to the pedestal. A panel 15 is hinged at 16 to each support 7 and flaps 12, 13 are hinged to respective panels 15 at 17. The flaps 12, 13 form an enclosure for the machine as shown in the chain dotted position and have extensions 19 which can extend the worksurface 10 of the free arm 4 or can be adjacent the panels 15 to expose the free arm 4. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,131,710.

Abstract: A shaft has at one end, a threaded portion, a cylindrical portion and a drive bush fixed thereto. The fly-wheel is mounted to rotate on the cylindrical portion of the shaft, a clamping block being screwed on the threaded portion to clamp the fly-wheel against the drive bush to lock it in rotation on the shaft. The possible angle of rotation of the block on the shaft is limited by a screw threaded in any one of at least two bores of the block to come into cooperation with a stop finger fast in rotation to the shaft and extending radially with respect to the latter. The bores are parallel to the axis of the shaft. The screw can be positioned in that one of the bores which provides the most favourable angle of rotation of the block between the coupling position of the fly-wheel and its uncoupled position.
