Abstract:
A method and apparatus for entering an alphanumeric character with an accent or extension into an electronic device. A base character is entered into the device using a keypad (310), and the base character is then displayed on the device display (330). Next, a table (200) that includes a plurality of accents or extensions (210) is displayed for the user on the device display (330). The user then selects an accent or extension (210) from the table (200) that the user wishes to associate with the base character. After the selection of the accent or extension from the table (200) by the user, the base character is replaced on the device display (330) with a composite character that consists of the base character and the accent or extension (210) selected by the user from the table (200).
Abstract:
A system, method, and program for tracking usage and reporting available resource information of a wireless communication device, such as a mobile telephone. A server, wireless device, or both, keeps a record of available resources for the wireless device. In one embodiment, a server receives a request for an application from the wireless device, enables the application, and tracks the time for which the application is enabled. After the application is stopped, the server adjusts the record of available resources to reflect the time consumed by the application and provides the updated available resource information to the wireless handset. The wireless device can assist in such monitoring of available resources, with either data storage, processing, or both.
Abstract:
A system, method, and computer program for providing an application catalog (72) of served applications and data to wireless devices (60) on a wireless network (62) seeking to download the applications and/or data. The application catalog is displayable to a wireless device across the wireless network, and application lists at least a plurality of application catalog is optimized based upon predetermined criteria such that the preferred application and/or data to be downloaded by a wireless device is initially displayed to a wireless device attempting to access the application catalog.
Abstract:
In one implementation of the present invention, a cellular network for wireless communications (e.g. a cellular telephone network) receives a transmission including an identification token from a mobile unit (e.g. a telephone). Via a service provider, the network also receives a command to prevent access to information stored at the mobile unit. Upon detecting a correspondence between the identification token and the command to prevent access to information stored at the mobile unit, the network instructs the mobile unit to prevent access to local information, which information may include a directory of telephone numbers and other personal and/or confidential items.
