Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a panoramic image that has high picture quality and has no distortion caused at each connection part of the image by mapping plural images which are photographed by controlling the photographing direction of an image pickup means via a drive means onto a virtual spherical surface that is viewed from the rotational center of the drive means. SOLUTION: A computer 1 photographs a scenery 4 by controlling a pan tilter camera 3 located at a remote place and displays the image of a photographed screen 5 in an operation area 6A of a monitor 2. When a panoramic screen production instruction is produced via a panorama production button 6E, a pan tilter and a zoom lens are driven to each prescribed position to acquire each image. These acquired images are connected together to a virtual spherical surface defining a mobile axis of the pan tilter as an original point, and a plane image which is normalized in both latitude and longitude directions of the virtual spherical surface is shown in a panoramic image display area 6B. In such a way, a panoramic image is easily produced with no use of an expensive super-wide-angle lens nor fisheye lens.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To attain tracking control in the case where the movement of an object is fast, even if faster than that of the camera section, by setting the camera to zoom out toward the wide side so as to extend the view angle. CONSTITUTION: A characteristic value obtained by an object recognition circuit 13 is fed to a tracking controller 14, which controls a panning motor 6 and a tilting motor 7 so as to track a change in the feature value of the object. That is, a deviation of the object from a screen center is detected from the feature value of the object and a control signal is given to the panning motor 6 and the tilting motor 7 via drivers 15, 16 in a direction opposite to the position deviation of the object from the center of screen. Thus, the position of the camera is moved in response to the motion of the object by applying panning and tilting so as to trace a change in the characteristic and the object is displayed in the middle of the screen at all times.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of vibration in zooming by controlling the device to keep zooming toward the wide position when a panning motor and a tilting motor are around a mechanical end point in the object tracking of the camera. CONSTITUTION: When a panning motor 6 and a tilting motor 7 are driven to make tracking control of an object and no object is in existence on a screen, after a current zoom position is stored, the zooming is set toward the wide position. When the object is found out, the panning motor 6 and the tilting motor 7 are driven to make tracking control so that the object comes to the center of the screen. In this case, as the result of detection of an end point detector 18, when a controller 14 discriminates it that both the motors are not in existence around the mechanical end point, the zooming is restored to the stored original position. However, when the controller 14 discriminates it that both the motors are in existence around the mechanical end point, the zooming is kept as it is, where the field angle is spread. Thus, zooming vibration due to both the panning motor 6 and the tilting motor 7 reside around the mechanical end point is prevented.
