    Abstract: PURPOSE:Polyester fiber is flame retarded by treatment with a specific halogen- containing compound and a surface layer of polyester copolymer is provided on the surface of the treated polyester fiber, whereby excellent fire retardancy is imparted to the polyester without any adverse effect on the inherent properties of fiber, especially light resistance. CONSTITUTION:Thermally melting synthetic fiber, preferably polyethylene terephthalate fiber, is treated with 7-12C cycloalkane bearing 3-6 halogen atoms such as 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexabromocycloheptane, or phenyl glycidyl ether derivative bearing 3-6 halogen atoms on the benzene rings such as a compound given as the formula. Then, the surface of fiber holding the flame retarder is coated with a polyester copolymer obtained from water-soluble polyalkylene glycol, terephthalic acid and/or isophthalic acid and alkylene glycol.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent clogging and obtain the filter cloth of easy maintenance by containing the acidic groups substituted with the alkali metals in the specific range to the filter cloth composed of polyamide-base fibers. CONSTITUTION:Anionic groups such as sodium allyl sulfonate and sodium methacryl sulfonate substituted by alkali metals such as sodium and potassium are contained at 1.3X10 -2.0X10 mol/10 gram fiber amount by a method such as graft polymerization in the filter cloth produced by the woven or nonwoven fabrics composed of polyamide-base fibers such as Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6. The filter cloth 1 produced in this way is superior in peelability of filtration residues and permits suppression of clogging owing to filter residues 2.
