    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a processed filament yarn having fluffs and bulkiness like those of a spun yarn and imparting a soft and gentle high quality touch feeling when a woven or knitted fabric is prepared from it. CONSTITUTION: This processed filament yarn YK having 4.7-6g/d yarn strength and fluffs A, B like a spun yarn is obtained by performing a final twisting to plural multi-filament yarn Y having a primary twisting, forming the part of monofilaments constituting the multi-filament yarn Y of a short fiber, projecting the short fibers as fluffs A, B, at least one end of which are restricted by the primary or final twists and having 100-400 fluffs/m with 1-5mm length whose >=30 fluffs/m have >=1.5-5mm length. Since this processed filament yarn has a higher strength than those of conventional spun yarns or fluff-processed filament yarns and a spun yarn like touch feeling, it can be used as a sewing thread excellent in high speed sewing capability.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject soft thread and yarn excellent in sewing properties and knitting characteristics by coating single filaments constructing hairy materials of the sewing thread or knitting yarn having the hairy materials with a water-repellent resin for each single filament. CONSTITUTION:Sewing thread or knitting yarn produced by dipping a skeinlike material of filament yarn in which hairy materials, such as loops or snarls, composed of preferably synthetic fiber, etc., in an amount of >=20% based on the whole thereof are constructed of hairy materials having >=1mm length on the yarn surface in a treating solution containing a fluorine-based vinyl monomer compound and a polymerization catalyst and then subjecting the dipped skeinlike material to polymerization reaction in the presence of water under relaxed conditions and forming a film from a water-repellent resin for each of the single filaments constructing the aforementioned hairy materials. The resultant sewing thread and knitting yarn are good in sewing properties and knitting characteristics, extremely effective in, e.g. sewing fabrics with bad needling, excellent as knitting yarn and suitable as hand-knitting yarn due to rich softness thereof.
