    Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the lowering of strength at high temp. and to improve the thermal shock resistance of the composite material by obtaining the inorg. fiber of the material from a silicon-contg. polycyclic aromatic polymer and specifying the composition. CONSTITUTION:The fiber is obtained from a silicon-contg. polycyclic aromatic polymer, and is the aggregate consisting of (a) a carbonaceous material derived from the mesophase polycyclic aromatic compd. constituting the polymer and exhibiting >=1 kinds of crystal arrangement among radial, onion, random, core- radial, skin-onion and mosaic structures, (b) non-oriented crystalline and/or amorphous carbon derived from an optically isotropic polycyclic aromatic compd. contg. an org. solvent-insoluble component constituting the polymer and (c) the amorphous phase consisting of Si, C and/or the crystalline superfine grains consisting of beta-Sic and having =1 kinds among the carbide, nitride, oxide and glass ceramic.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject polymer giving an inorganic fiber having excellent mechanical properties, etc., by infusibilization and baking by thermally reacting a polycyclic aromatic compound with a random copolymer containing an organic silicon polymer bonded to the aromatic ring of a polycyclic aromatic compound. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer can be produced by heating (melting) (A) 100 pts.wt. of a random copolymer composed mainly of (i) an Si-CH2 bond unit and (ii) an Si-Si bond unit, having H, lower alkyl, phenyl or silyl on the side chain of Si atom, having a ratio (i/ii) of 1/(0-20), containing (iii) petroleum or coal-based pitch (or its heat-treated product) as (a part of) Si atom of the organic silicon polymer and bonded to C atom on the aromatic ring of a polycyclic aromatic compound derived from a pitch free from component insoluble in organic solvent and (B) 2-3,900 pts.wt. of a polycyclic aromatic compound composed of mesophase (and optically isotropic phase) obtained by the heat- treatment of petroleum or coal-based pitch. The heating temperature is 200-500 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve mechanical characteristics, by reinforcing a matrix plastic with a bundle of continuous filaments on the surfaces of which fine particles and short fibers and/or whiskers are adhered or with a woven fabric made of the bundle of continuous filaments. CONSTITUTION:A bundle of continuous filaments made of continuous filaments whose constitutional components is at least one selected from a group consisting of ceramic, carbon and metal or a woven fabric made of a bundle of continuous filaments is immersed in a treating liquid wherein fine particles consisting of at least one selected from heat resistant substances such as ceramic, carbon, metal and so on and short fibers and/or whiskers are suspended. Fibers prepared by adhering fine particles and said short fibers and/or whiskers in the surface of each continuous filament are impregnated with a plastic and thereafter solidified.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:Powdery polyolefin is dipped and dispersed in a specific organic solvent and made to react with a vinyl compound with a polar group under special conditions to produce easily in a short time the titled polyolefin showing high adhesion to the surface of metallic materials. CONSTITUTION:(A) Powdery polyolefin, preferably ethylene homo or copolymer of less than 250 micrometer particle sizes, is dipped and dispersed in (B) an organic solvent that boils at a temperature lower than the melting point under the pressure in the reaction system and does dissolve component A such as acetone. Then, (C) a vinyl compound bearing a polar group, preferably glycidyl acrylate and a radical polymerization initiator such as benzoyl peroxide are added to the above suspension to effect their reaction at a temperature lower than the melting point component A. Further, the temperature is kept to distil off the solvent B from the reaction system to produce the objective polyolefin.

SOLUTION: The high temperature dust collecting ceramic filter is constituted of a composite material of oxide ceramics reinforced by silicon carbide type ceramics fibers.
