Abstract: To keep free a lance opening passing a wall of a metallurgical vessel (3) and to avoid the formation of deposits and skulls, the arrangement comprises a means (17) for generating a flame and/or gas jet (18), which is displaceable from a resting position lateral of the lance opening into an operating position closing the lance opening. Preferably the means (17) is a burner, mounted with a lance-guiding funnel (16) on a pivot-supported hood (7), in such a way that the funnel (16) can replace the burner, to allow a probe or lance to be inserted, in a single movement brought about by fluid pressure actuator (13).
