    Abstract: Apparatus for mechanical purification of waste water has a stationary hollow shaft which is installed in a vessel for waste water and carries a variable number of hollow drum-shaped frames with pairs of filters adjacent to the openings in their sidewalls. Waste water is drawn into the interior of the frames by a pump which is connected to one end of the shaft whereby the impurities deposit at the outer sides of the filters. Such impurities are removed from time to time by suction heads which are adjacent to the outer sides of the filters and are connected to a single sludge pump by discrete conduits, one for each frame. The inner sides of the respective filters are then sprayed by clean water which promotes segregation of impurities and their entry into the suction heads. Indexible valving elements are provided to connect conduits for admission of clean water into selected frames with a single source of clean water and to connect selected conduits for removal of impurities with the sludge pump.

    Abstract: Filter for fibrous material is disc type and has hollow shaft down which passages run. A series of segmental discs are located along the shaft with each segment having a passage which connects with the passage down the shaft. A distributor valve permits alternating press. and suction to be applied to various passages as the shaft rotates. This distributor valve establishes a suction zone around a certain sector, this being divided into parts. The first serves to draw off the so-called dirty filtrate while the second draws off the clean filtrate. Suction in the clean zone commences somewhere between the lowest posn. of the radius and 60 degrees round from this esp. in a zone 10-50 degrees round from the lowest posn. Suction for the dirty filtrate commences at least 45 degrees before the lowest posn. Used to filter fibrous slurries esp. wood pulp slurries inppapermaking. The filter operates significantly quicker and more precisely than previous disc filters.
