The various embodiments of the invention provide for relative movement of the substrate and a process head to access the entire wafer in a minimal space to conduct combinatorial processing on various regions of the substrate. The heads enable site isolated processing within the chamber described and method of using the same are described.

A method for forming a coating on a substrate using an atmospheric pressure plasma discharge. The method comprises introducing an atomized liquid and/or solid coating-forming material into an atmospheric pressure plasma discharge and/or an ionized gas stream resulting therefrom, and exposing the substrate to the atomized coating-forming material. The application also described a method for polymerizing a polymer forming material, and further to apparatus for forming a coating on a substrate.

The invention relates to a branched carboxylic acid functional polyester resin P1 as described herein. The invention further relates to a thermosetting powder coating composition (PCC A1) comprising a binder K1, said binder K1 comprising the P1 and a crosslinker X1. The invention further relates to a cured PCC A1. The invention further relates to a process for making said PCC A1 and processes for coating an article with said PCC A1. The invention further relates to an article having coated thereon said PCC A1 as well as to an article having coated and cured thereon said PCC A1. The invention further relates to a thermosetting powder coating composition B (PCC B) comprising a physical mixture of the thermosetting powder coating composition A1 (PCC A1) with a separate, distinct thermosetting powder coating composition A (PCC A). The invention further relates to a process for making said thermosetting powder coating composition B and processes for coating an article with said PCC B. The invention further relates to a cured PCC B. Disclosed are methods for coating a substrate. These methods include: (a) vertically orienting the substrate between a vertically oriented backstop and a spray gun; (b) at least partially coating the vertically oriented substrate with a substantially 100% solids, radiation curable liquid coating composition by passing the composition through the spray gun wherein the composition is atomized; whereby a portion of the atomized coating composition deposits on the vertically oriented substrate and a portion of the atomized coating composition deposits on the vertically oriented backstop; (c) exposing the coated substrate to ionizing radiation and/or actinic radiation to cure the coating composition deposited thereon; and (d) removing and reusing at least a portion of the coating composition deposited on the vertically oriented backstop. An embodiment of the present invention provides a protective layer (10) which includes an aggregate of long chain molecules (13) wherein each long chain molecule is randomly oriented and consistently entangled to adjacent long chain molecules throughout the aggregate of long chain molecules. Additionally, the layer is essentially free from voids and residual stresses. The long chain molecule may be a plastic or liquid crystal polymer. Additionally, a method for forming the protective layer is disclosed herein. The method includes the steps of disposing an aggregate of long chain molecules in a liquid state onto a substrate (18) such that each long chain molecule is randomly oriented, maintaining the liquid state of the aggregate of long chain molecules such that each long chain molecule is consistently entangled to adjacent long chain molecules throughout the aggregate, and solidifying the aggregate.

A method of depositing a dielectric coating, comprising the steps of forming an unroughened or roughened, as-cast or wrought substrate surface to receive the coatings; and flame spraying a single premixed thermoplastic epoxy/hardener powder onto the surface, the resultant in-flight heated powder being chemically activated to impact the surface and form a chemically adhering coating, the coating being cured in-situ to be dielectric and thermally conductive.
