Abstract:
An ultrasonic image scanning system for scanning an organic object includes a container for containing a coupling medium for transmitting an ultrasonic signal to the organic object disposed therein whereby a simultaneous multiple direction scanning process may be carried out without physically contacting the organic object. The ultrasonic image scanning system further includes ultrasound transducers for transmitting the ultrasonic signal to the organic object through the coupling medium without asserting an image deforming pressure to the organic object. These transducers distributed substantially around a two-dimensional perimeter of the container and substantially at symmetrical angular positions at approximately equal divisions of 360 degrees over a two-dimensional perimeter of the container. The transducers are further movable over a vertical direction alone sidewalls of the container for a real time three dimensional (3D) image data acquisition. The container further includes sidewalls covered with a baffle layer for reducing an acoustic reverberation.
Abstract:
The invention provides a multi-frequency transducer capable of obtaining desired directivity regardless of frequencies. Parallelepiped-shaped transducer elements (1) are used as transducer elements and a plurality of such transducer elements (1) are arranged in an array. The transducer elements (1) are caused to resonate using a resonant frequency in fundamental vibration mode and a resonant frequency in harmonic vibration mode determined by the dimensions (A, B) of a short edge (1a) and a long edge (1b) perpendicular to a longitudinal edge (1c) of each transducer element (1) to transmit and receive at multiple frequencies. The angle of directivity (null) of the transducer elements is controlled by the dimension (C) of the longitudinal edge which is set to a value which does not affect resonance in either the fundamental vibration mode or the harmonic vibration mode.

Provided is a circuit for driving a magnetostrictive device including: a high voltage interrupting circuit section for interrupting an instantaneously leaking high voltage depending on the switching operation of a power switch; a voltage storage section for rectifying an input voltage for a half of the positive cycle and storing it; a switching circuit section for supplying the voltage stored in the voltage storage section to the magnetostrictive device; and a voltage discharging circuit section for discharge the voltage remaining in the voltage storage section when the power is interrupted.

1. In combination in a free, underwater craft, a hull, means for carrying llast, means for discharging said ballast, depth responsive means, a timer providing two time intervals, control means operated by said timer for actuating said discharging means after a pre-set time interval, and other control means operated by both said timer and said depth reponsive means for actuating said discharge means after a shorter time interval if said craft attains a pre-set depth.
Abstract:
A low frequency underwater sound electro-mechanical transduction bender apparatus for radiating sound at deep submergence depths and including at least one piezoelectric bilaminar or trilaminar beam or disc having opposed support ends; a pair of piezoelectric structures that each have sides that are respectively connected at the opposed support ends of the beam or disc. The piezoelectric bilaminar or trilaminar beam or disc is driven by the pair of piezoelectric structures. The apparatus further includes a housing that contains the piezoelectric bilaminar or trilaminar beam or disc and the pair of piezoelectric structures, as well as an internal fill of a fluid substance. The housing further defines a reflective rear plate that is positioned opposite to the piezoelectric bilaminar or trilaminar beam or disc for reflecting off of it and returning back to the rear section of the frontal disc or beam or a reflective surface from which back radiation from the bender disk reflects at an angle of 45 degrees and travels radially outward or a reflective surface from which back radiation of the bender disk reflects at an angle of 45 degrees and travels radially outward.
Abstract:
An acoustic transducer (30), comprising: a support structure (36); an active assembly comprising a base plate (32) supported by the support structure (36) and a piezoelectric body (34) supported by the base plate (32); and a passive vibrator (38) supported by the support structure (36) and coupled via the support structure (36) to the active assembly (32, 34) so that vibration of the active assembly (32, 34) drives the passive vibrator (38). The active assembly (32, 34) and the passive vibrator (38) have the same resonant frequency.
