Abstract: Disclosed are various systems and techniques for tracking surgical tools in a surgical video. In one aspect, the system begins by receiving one or more established tracks for one or more previously-detected surgical tools in the surgical video. The system then processes a current frame of the surgical video to detect one or more objects using a first deep-learning model. Next, for each detected object in the one or more detected objects, the system further performs the flowing steps to assign the detected object to a right track: (1) computing a semantic similarity between the detected object and each of the one or more established tracks; (2) computing a spatial similarity between the detected object and the latest predicted location for each of the one or more established tracks; and (3) attempting to assign the detected object to one of the one or more established tracks based on the computed semantic similarity and the spatial similarity metric.

Abstract: A computer system may perform an image-related function using a segmentation (e.g., an image mask) that has been generated by a custom segmentation machine learning model. To begin, the system may receive image data corresponding to a surgical scene including a background that includes an anatomical feature and at least one surgical tool. The system may also generate segmentation data using the custom segmentation machine learning model based on inputting the first image data to the custom segmentation machine learning model. The system may also include generating a segmentation of the at least one surgical tool using the segmentation data. Once the segmentation has been generated, the system may perform an image-related function using the segmentation.

Abstract: This disclosure teaches multi-classification of endoscopic imaging using a segmentation neural network. The network is trained on imaging data using a novel loss function with components of both focal and boundary loss. During a lithotripsy procedure, images are received by a deployed endoscopic probe. Based on the received imaging data and inference data from its prior learning, the segmentation neural network identifies renal calculi and surgical instruments within the imaging data. The imaging data is modified and displayed to assist the lithotripsy procedure.

Abstract: The disclosed computer-implemented method for selecting locations of mandibular relocation features (MRFs) on oral appliances may include determining candidate locations for placing an MRF on a first oral appliance for a first stage of mandibular relocation (MR) treatment and determining candidate locations for placing an MRF on a second oral appliance for a second stage. The method may include selecting from the candidate locations for the first stage and the second stage based on decreasing a distance between the selected pair of candidate locations. The method may further include processing multiple MRFs in parallel. The method may also include increasing a number of initial candidate locations. Locations for intermediate stages may be selected based on interpolating between the first and second stages or based on decreasing a distance between the selected pair if the interpolation fails. The intermediate stages may be processed using a binary search or a linear search.

Abstract: An image recording system includes a processor. The processor acquires a time series RAW image group including a plurality of time series RAW images in a first time section. The processor extracts, from the time series RAW image group, a recording candidate RAW image group included in a second time section as a part of the first time section. The processor records at least one RAW image included in the recording candidate RAW image group as a recording target RAW image which is a RAW image to be recorded. The processor selects the recording target RAW image from the recording candidate RAW image group. The processor converts the RAW image which is not selected as the recording target RAW image from the recording candidate RAW image group or the time series RAW image group to compressed data, and records the compressed data.
