Abstract:
According to one embodiment of the invention, a digital imaging device (100) is described having filters (110, 120) to capture colorimetric information of visual light at a first and a second set of wavelengths. The captured colorimetric information is processed to reproduce a surface reflectance of an object in a scene (160).

Abstract:
A system and method are disclosed which provide a look-down digital imaging device 300 capable of scanning a calibration area 314 included within such look-down digital imaging device to capture image data for the calibration area and calibrate itself based on analysis of such captured image data. More specifically, a preferred embodiment includes a calibration area that is integrated internally within the look-down digital imaging device. When performing calibration in such a preferred embodiment, the scan head 304 of the look-down digital imaging device is operable to align itself with the calibration area to allow for a scan of the calibration area (i.e., the capture of digital image data of the calibration area). In one embodiment, a look-down digital imaging device does not achieve a focused scan of the calibration area, but is capable of utilizing captured unfocused digital imaging data for calibration. In a preferred embodiment, a look-down digital imaging device achieves a focused scan of the calibration area, thereby enabling a further accurate calibration. More specifically, a preferred embodiment folds the optical path of the reflected light 322 A from the calibration area in order to have the optical path of such calibration area accurately mimic the optical path of an original to be scanned, thereby allowing for focused calibration to be achieved.

A contact-type linear image sensor has two separate substrates (l2, l4) aligned adjacent to each other A linear array (D) of amorphous silicon photoelectric converting elements serving as photoelectric cells and a matrix wiring unit (28) are provided on a first substrate (l2) Driver IC chips (34, 36) are mounted on a second substrate (l4) Connection pad patterns (20a) for common cell electrodes (20) of cell groups (Dl, D2,..., Dm) and connection pad patterns (32a, 32b, 32c, 32d) for row signal lines (26) of the matrix wiring unit (28) are provided concentrically at a peripheral edge of the first substrate (l2) to be alinged along a junction edge line defined between the substrates (l2, l4). Connection pad patterns (38) for the IC chips (34, 36) are linearly aligned at a peripheral edge of the second substrate (l4) and along the substrate junction edge line to oppose the pad patterns (20a, 32a, 32b, 32c, 32d) of the first substrate (l2). A connector unit for electrically connecting the pad patterns of the first and second substrates (l2, l4) may be provided at only one position of the junction edge portion of the first and second substrates (l2, l4).
Abstract:
In one example, a document scanner has a fixed-position scan bar and a built-in translatable calibration target. The scan bar has a linear array of imaging elements aimed in an imaging direction. The calibration target is spaced apart from and parallel to the linear array, and has a planar surface orthogonal to the imaging direction spanning the length of the linear array. The target is translatable during a calibration in a direction in a plane of the surface.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a joining construction for mounting the CCD cells of a color line camera on a color splitting prism (30) attached to a prism housing (2). Each CCD cell (6, 7, 8) is attached, by a first glue joint (13), to its fastening element (9), the length (L2) whereof is essentially larger than the length (L1) of the CCD cell, and which fastening element (9) extends from the housing margin (12a) located on one side of said exit surface (20a, 20b, 20c) of the color splitting prism to the other housing margin (12b) located on the opposite side thereof. Each fastening element (9) is attached to said margins by third glue joints (11).
Abstract:
A lighting device includes a light source that illuminates an object of illumination, a reflecting member provided opposite the light source so as to direct a first part of illuminating light emitted therefrom to the object of illumination, and a light-blocking member provided between the light source and the object of illumination and between the reflecting member and the object of illumination. The light-blocking member blocks the first directed part of the illuminating light and a second part of the illuminating light directly illuminating the object of illumination with a certain ratio of a light-blocking rate for the first directed part of the illuminating light to a light-blocking rate for the second directly illuminating part of the illuminating light.
Abstract:
An image reading apparatus for reading a document has an image sensor unit, which is moved along a platen glass in a sub-scanning direction, mounting an LED, a light guide and a sensor. A white reference panel for use of shading correction is provided on the platen glass on the side thereof opposite the image sensor unit. Light shield plates are provided on the platen glass on the side facing the image sensor unit along both sides of the white reference panel.
Abstract:
A document-guiding device that clips onto the image sensor of a document scanner ensures that documents to be scanned are introduced into the scanner at an optimal angle and are applied to the transparent surface of the image sensor at an optimal pressure, thereby avoiding scratching and soiling the sensor glass surface. Moreover, the deep input guide clip includes a sharp edge that acts as a scrapper to remove or flatten protruding impurities to further reduce soiling the sensor transparent surface. The deep input guide clip has the added benefit of stopping parasitic ambient light and protecting the image sensor against hard falling objects thus avoiding breakage of the transparent surface. The deep input guide clip forms a compact enclosure that may also hold a set of document proximity sensors and associated control electronics for precisely detecting the leading edge of the document when it is introduced in the scanner, its width and its trailing edge.
