Abstract:
A doming assembly (100) for doming the bottom wall (114) of a can body (110). A bodymaker punch (120) urges a can bottom wall (114) first against a forming ring (140) and then against a domer die (180). The forming ring (140) forms an outer annular portion (203) of a dome (201) and the domer die (180) forms a central portion (208) of a dome (201) in the can bottom wall (114). The sequential engagement of the can bottom wall (114) by first the forming ring (140), then the domer die (180) prevents flower dome formation and axial can body shortening.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for monitoring and controlling the longitudinal and lateral deformation and the lateral position of a moving web (12) of plastic film material which is laminated (27) to a moving web (16) of paper material to form a laminated composite (22).
Abstract:
The present invention provides a device for forming a moving web of laminated composite material having window portions therein from a moving continuous web of plastic film material and a moving continuous web of paper material. The device comprises a cutter for repeatingly cutting spaced apart perforated window patterns in the paper web and a wetting unit for wetting the film web at spaced apart target areas having shapes substantially identical to the perforated window patterns. The device further comprises a phasing arrangement having both a coarse mode and a fine mode of operation for providing accurate registry of the perforated window patterns and the wetted target areas. A wetting synchronization unit synchronizes the wetting unit with the film target areas whereby the target areas and only the target areas are wetted by the wetting unit. Also provided is a device for removing a paper chad portion from the perforated window patterns subsequent to lamination.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for detecting predetermined register indicia (12) on a moving web (10) of material having an obstructing field of indicia (18) positioned about the register indicia (12).
Abstract:
@ A clip (10) is capable of securely holding cans to form a multiple can package and allowing ease of disengagement and relative bending of adjacent cans in directions parallel to the multiple container package. The clip (10) is designed to engage cans having a wide range of counter-sink depths by providing an ear (12) having a guiding portion (14) with sufficient flexibility to conform to the top portion of the can. A hook portion (20) of the clip is designed to securely engage the chime portion of the can while uniform support is provided by a concentric support wall (22), to maintain engagement of the can in a secure manner with increased holding ability. A rib structure extends into the ear portion (12) to provide additional support. Flange means (24) limit movement of discrete body portions of the clip (10) to allow ease in disengagement in response to radial diagonal movement of cans during disengagement.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for processing used empty aluminum and steel cans wherein groups of empty cans are carried upwardly on an inclined conveyor (46) between spaced inclined ribs (48) and separately sequentially discharged therefrom into an air duct (58) wherein empty cans (32E) are blown to a crusher (80) whereat the empty cans (32E) are sequentially crushed and fall onto a magnetic separator (95) whereat crushed aluminum cans (32A) are separated from crushed steel cans (325) and fall into a weigh hopper (110) whereat the weight of crushed aluminum cans (32A) is determined whereupon compensation is dispensed for the value of the crushed aluminum cans (32A). Thereafter, the crushed aluminum cans (32A) are sequentially dropped into an air duct and blown to a storage bin.
Abstract:
A photomultiplier tube assembly for use in high speed light testing apparatus for making a series of light measurements in rapid succession. Electronic circuitry is described for removing noise from a light measurement signal generated by the photomultiplier tube. Other circuitry is described for switching the photomultiplier tube on and off and for sensing the presence or absence of a measured object in a testing apparatus.
Abstract:
A decorative corrugated paper product having a preprinted and/or decorated transparent plastic film (114) adhesively applied to at least one of the facing sheets (112), the other side of which is adapted for subsequent adhesion to a fluted corrugated medium in the preparation of the corrugated product, wherein the printing and/or decoration is visable through the plastic film on the exterior of the facing sheet and a method of producing such a product wherein a paper facing sheet is prepared for use in the manufacture of a corrugated paper product, one of said sides having adhesively bonded thereto the transparent reverse printed, plastic film, preparing a fluted corrugated medium having two sides and adhesively attaching the tips of the flutes on one side of the fluted corrugating medium to the other of the sides of the facing sheet, so as to form a preprinted corrugated product.
