Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the phasing of repeat length portions of a moving web includes an operating station (98) at which the same operation is performed on each repeat length portion of the web passing therethrough. The apparatus includes register indicia means (11) associated with each repeat length portion of the web (20) positioned at a substantially identical location within each repeat length portion (24) of the web for sensing by a register sensing means (120) for indicating the relative position of an associated repeat length portion. Separate detecting means generate a register indicia sensing signal indicating passage of the web, a web travel signal indicative of web travel distance, a machine position reference signal indicative of a cyclically repeating reference position of the operating machine, and a machine movement signal indicative of the relative cyclical machine movement of the operating machine. A data processing unit (100) receives and processes these signals for placing each repeat length portion of the web in proper registry.

Abstract: Solution heat pump systems, improvements in the heat exchangers thereof, methods for utilizing waste heat and for improving the efficiency of heat exchange are provided, to up-grade waste heat by temperature boosting. Waste heat is fed to the evaporization zone of a first heat exchanger (2) of an absorption heat pump apparatus to vaporize a first fluid (3) of a binary fluid, the vaporized first fluid (3) is then absorbed by the binary fluid in the absorber zone (5) releasing heat. A second heat exchanger (40) in the absorber zone (5) accepts the released heat from the binary fluid, thereby upgrading the temperature of the fluid to produce steam in the heat exchanger (40). After the release of heat from the binary fluid, the first fluid of the binary fluid is vaporized by use of waste heat and the vapor is condensed (35). The condensate is transferred to the first heat exchanger (2) for revaporation and the desorbed binary fluid is transferred to the absorber for further absorption of fluid. Improved heat exchanging contact between a source of waste heat and a binary working solution is obtained by providing a uniform film of binary working solution on the outside surfaces of a vertical tube heat exchanger.
