Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient and effective method forming a lightweight and high-strength structure, in particular, an annular composite structure, and to provide an apparatus and a system. SOLUTION: The apparatus for forming the annular composite structure includes an annular shaped tool handling assembly 660 and a forming head 604. The annular shaped tool handling assembly 660 includes a forming surface of a select cross-sectional geometry. The forming head 604 is configured to form continuous ply layers one at a time circumferentially around the forming surface of the tool. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas-generating device improved for suppressing flame, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: Gas-generating devices (22) with grain-retention structures (28) and related methods are described. In particular, gas-generating devices have at least one retention structure fixed to a frame (26) and positioned between adjacent gas-generant grains arranged in a longitudinal stack. Additionally, methods of manufacturing the gas-generating devices are described. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas generating composition and a method for its use. SOLUTION: A metal complex is used as the gas generating composition. The complex comprises a metal cation as a template, a neutral ligand containing hydrogen and nitrogen, and oxidizing anion enough to balance the charge of the complex. The complex is formulated such that when the complex combusts, nitrogen gas and water vapor is produced. A specific example of such complex includes a metal nitrite amine, a metal nitrate amine, and a metal perchlorate amine complex, as well as a hydrazine complex. A binder and a co-oxidizer can be combined with the metal complex to improve crush strength of the gas generating composition and to permit efficient combustion of the binder. Such gas generating composition is adaptable for use in a gas generating device such as an automobile airbag. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for the manufacture of fiber reinforced structures wherein tooling and a delivery head are employed for the placement of discrete, elongated fiber elements in mutually superimposed relationship to define reinforcement or stiffening members on fiber elements for the interiors or exteriors of composite shells and the consolidation of the fibers to form the cured composite structure. A consolidation medium is provided for the positioning and control of the fiber elements on the hard tooling and during the curing of the fiber elements. Method and apparatus for the manufacture of fiber reinforced structures.
