A wrapping method and unit (12) for producing a package (1) containing a group (2) of cigarettes and having a cigarette extraction opening (3); a sheet (6) of wrapping material, complete with the cigarette extraction opening (3), is fed into a pocket (19) of a wrapping wheel (18) so that the sheet (6) of wrapping material folds into a U inside the pocket (19); then the group (2) of cigarettes is fed into the pocket (19) containing the U-folded sheet (6) of wrapping material.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for wrapping a bundle of cigarettes by a wrapping sheet which can be easily introduced at a low price.SOLUTION: A wrapping sheet (6) provided with a slot (3) for taking out cigarettes is supplied to a pocket (19) of wrapping foil (18) and the wrapping sheet (6) is folded in a U shape in the pocket (19). Then a bundle (2) of the cigarettes is supplied to the pocket (19) in which the wrapping sheet (6) folded in the U shape is contained.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packing method and unit for folding a sheet of packing material about a parallelepiped-shaped article. SOLUTION: There is provided a unit 12 for folding a sheet 5 of packing material about a parallelepiped-shaped article 2. The packing unit has: a conveyor 16 for feeding the article along a path P1; a feed device 18 for feeding the sheet of packing material perpendicularly to the path and in front of the article, so the article, as it moves forward, intercepts and gradually folds the sheet of packing material into a "U"; two lead-in devices 19 mounted to move parallel to the path and positioned on opposite sides of the article, so the article is enclosed between the two lead-in devices; and an actuating device 20 for feeding the two lead-in devices parallel to the path and together with the article, so the sheet of packing material is also intercepted by the lead-in devices 20. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carton packing machine for selectively manufacturing both of two kinds of cartons juxtaposed along the vertical axis of the cartons. SOLUTION: This multipurpose carton packing machine has a conveyor assembly 13 for a box. A first conveyor 19 forms a sub-group of the box 4 stacked by bringing down by feeding the individual box 4 aligned and continuously arranged on a side surface to a storage part 26. A second conveyor 27 is associated to the first conveyor 19 to feed the box 4 to a packing machine 14 by receiving the box 4 carried by the first conveyor 19. The conveyor assembly 13 takes a first form for receiving a continuous body of the sub-group of the box 4 placed by bringing down from the first conveyor 19 by connecting the second conveyor 27 to the first conveyor 19 by the storage part 26 and a second form for receiving the individual box 4 aligned and continuously arranged on the side surface by connecting the second conveyor 27 to the first conveyor 19 on the upstream side of the storage part 26.
