Abstract: An adaptive feedback canceller of an ear-wearable device has an adaptive foreground filter that inserts a feedback cancellation signal into a digitized input signal to produce an error signal. An instability detector of the device is configured to extract two or more features from the error signal. The instability detector has a machine learning module that determines instability in the error signal based on the two or more features. The instability module changes the adaptive foreground filter in response to determining the instability. The change causes the adaptive foreground filter to have a faster adaptation to perturbations in the error signal compared to a previously used step size.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for audio synchronization for hearing devices. An audio packet is received from a host device at a first hearing device configured to be worn in a first ear of a wearer, the audio packet compatible with a wireless low energy digital communication protocol, and the audio packet is received from the host device at a second hearing device configured to be worn in a second ear of the wearer. Upon one or more programmable conditions, a synchronization packet is sent from the first hearing device to the second hearing device. An acknowledgment packet is sent from the second hearing device to the first hearing device upon receipt of the synchronization packet, and a first transducer at the first hearing device and a second transducer at the second hearing device are unmuted to deliver synchronized audio to the first ear and to the second ear.

Abstract: A system comprises a first hearing device and a second hearing device each comprising a housing configured to be supported at, on or in the wearer's ear, a processor, memory, a radio frequency transceiver, and an antenna arrangement disposed in or on the housing and coupled to the transceiver and the processor. The antenna arrangement comprises an antenna coupled to a phase shifter. The processor is configured to adjust a phase shift of the phase shifter. The system also comprises a clock synchronization link between the transceivers, a second link configured to communicate received signal information between the transceivers, and a master processor defined by the processor of the first or second hearing device. The master processor is configured to cause the first and second hearing devices to operate the antenna arrangements as a phased array antenna arrangement via the clock synchronization link and the second link.

Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to hearing assistance devices that can control other devices based on hearing assistance device events and/or status. In an embodiment, a hearing assistance system includes a hearing assistance device that can include a control circuit, a microphone in electrical communication with the control circuit, an electroacoustic transducer for generating sound in electrical communication with the control circuit, and a power supply circuit. The hearing assistance device can be configured to initiate sending a hearing accommodative command to a separate controllable device upon occurrence of a hearing assistance device event. The hearing assistance device event can be raised by detection of at least one of the hearing assistance device not being worn by the subject, the hearing assistance device in a not-in-use operating state, the hearing assistance device entering a recharging mode, and the hearing assistance device entering a shut-down sequence. Abstract: A system and method of automatic transcription using a visual display device and an ear-wearable device. The system is configured to process an input audio signal at the display device to identify a first voice signal and a second voice signal from the input audio signal. A representation of the first voice signal and the second voice signal can be displayed on the display device and input can be received comprising the user selecting one of the first voice signal and the second voice signal as a selected voice signal. The system is configured to convert the selected voice signal to text data and display a transcript on the display device. The system can further generate an output signal sound at the first transducer of the ear- wearable device based on the input audio signal.
