Abstract:
An active vibration isolation mount is provided for mounting a first member (1) to a second member (2) and for reducing the transmission of vibrations from the first member (1) to the second member (2). A spring arrangement (3) is arranged between the first and second members. A sensor senses vibrations in the first member. A force actuator (4) applies a controlling force to the second member in response to vibrations sensed by the sensor. The spring arrangement is adapted to provide a delay between the first and second members equal to or greater than a delay in the application of the controlling force by the force actuator (4) in response to the vibrations in the first member. Also a passive mount is provided for mounting a first member (1000) to a second member (1001) and for reducing the transmission of vibrations from the first member to the second member.
Abstract:
Improved suspensions of transition metal complexes of 2,6-diacylpyridine(bisimines) or 2,6-pyridinedicarboxaldehyde(bisimines), which are useful in catalysts for the polymerization or oligomerization of olefins, are prepared by sonicating a mixture of one or more of these complexes and an inert liquid. The resulting suspensions can be directly used as olefin polymerization or oligomerization catalyst components in oligomerization or polymerization processes. These processes may produce, for example, polyolefins useful for molding resins or films, or linear α-olefins.

The passive vibration isolation mount comprises a first mounting arrangement for mounting to the first member; a second mounting arrangement for mounting to the second member; a spring arrangement arranged between the first and second mounting arrangements; and a mass arrangement coupled to the spring arrangement so as to lie in or adjacent to a region between the spring arrangement and the second mounting arrangement. The spring arrangement is coupled to the first mounting arrangement and provides a spring force between the first and second mounting arrangements.
Abstract:
A large area detector (3) for use, for example, as an x-ray detector for medical imaging consists of a radiation sensitive detector (8) in combination with a monolithic amplification device consisting of a plurality of alternately stacked dynode and insulation layers having channels (6) extending therethrough in communication with respective signal collectors (10). The large area detector (3) is capable of being formed in tiles of 1 m 2 or more whilst providing high resolution of the order of 50-60 pixels per mm 2 .

Abstract:
The self-cleaning tube (1) has an outer sleeve (2) and an inner piezo-electric array (3) controlled by drive circuitry (4) mounted on a flexible circuit board. The piezo-electric elements of the array (3) are separately addressable by phased signals with the phase of the driving signal being determined with respect to the axial position of the piezo-electric element in the array. The self-cleaning tube (1) is therefore adapted to produce a peristaltic type action which prevents or reduces the build up of deposits on the inner wall of the tube. The self-cleaning tube is particularly suited to medical applications, for example as a catheter, and in the food and chemical industries.
Abstract:
An easily disassembled, rugged stand for supporting musical instruments does not require moving parts, hinges, or screws. The stand is made of two similar interlocking supports (10, 20), a cap (30) and a removable, flexible strap. The supports are adapted to be fastened together and contain the cap when the stand is disassembled. Further, the flexible strap may be fastened to the supports and used as a handle (40). When the stand is assembled, the supports are further stabilized by the cap (30), and the flexible strap (40) may be attached to the cap (30) and used to hold, for example the neck of a guitar.
Abstract:
A specialized control wire (20) for use in the guidance of catheters (10) includes a stainless steel core covered at least in part with a low friction material. The deflector wire is resiliently biased into a linear orientation for the purposes of selectively urging the distal curved portion of the catheter into relaxed and unrelaxed positions.
Abstract:
A deformable membrane assembly comprises an at least partially flexible fluid-filled envelope, one wall of which is formed by an elastic membrane that is held around its edge by a resiliently bendable supporting ring, a fixed support for the envelope and selectively operable means for causing relative movement between the supporting ring and the support for adjusting the pressure of the fluid in the envelope, thereby to cause the membrane to deform. The bending stiffness of the ring varies round the ring such that upon deformation of the membrane the ring bends variably to control the shape of the membrane to a predefined form. The moving means comprise a plurality of ring-engaging members that are arranged to apply a force to the ring at spaced control points. There are at least three control points, and there is a control point at or proximate each point on the ring where the profile of the ring that is needed to produce the predefined form upon deformation of the membrane exhibits a turning point in the direction of the force applied at the control point between two adjacent points where the profile of the ring exhibits an inflection point or a turning point in the opposite direction.
