Abstract: The invention is directed to a compound according to the formula [1] wherein R1 and R2 are branched or straight groups having up to 17 atoms selected from carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur, n is 0 to and including 18, Y is sulphur or selene, X is S or 0 and R is —OH or an organic group comprising one or more peptides, one or more nucleic acids, one or more antibodies or combinations thereof. Abstract: Provided is a hemostasis assay comprising a reaction mixture comprising a blood product to be tested, a trigger molecule for inducing thrombin generation, a thrombin-specific substrate which, upon cleavage by thrombin, produces a measurable thrombin-specific signal, a trigger molecule for inducing plasmin generation, a plasmin-specific substrate which, upon cleavage by plasmin, produces a measurable plasmin-specific signal, a phospholipid-containing surface, and calcium ions. The assay allows determination of the amount of thrombin and the amount of plasmin generated in the reaction mixture in time, starting at t=0, by measuring the thrombin-specific and plasmin-specific signals.

Abstract: The invention relates to a magneto-optical switching device for switching magnetization in a medium, comprising a magnetizable medium. According to the invention, a radiation system suited for imparting angular momentum to the magnetic spin system of said magnetizable medium, so as to selectively orient the magnetization of said medium. In addition, the invention relates to a method of switching a magnetizable medium, comprising providing a magnetizable medium; providing a radiation beam of a selectively chosen angular momentum; and targeting said radiation beam to said medium so as to transfer said angular momentum to a magnetic spin system of said magnetizable medium. Accordingly, spin states in magnetic materials can be manipulated using radiation of a suitable angular momentum. An effective magnetic field is generated for orienting the magnetization of the domains and can simultaneously be used to locally heat the material.
