Abstract:
A tubular support member located in a distal portion of an elongate flexible medical device is provided with a plurality of wall openings, e.g., axially-spaced, substantially transverse slots, formed therein to thereby increase a flexibility of the support member. A layer of sealing material overlays an outer surface the support member so as to provide a sealed portion of the support member including the wall openings, the sealing material having respective flexible invaginations formed therein overlaying the wall openings in the support member so that the sealing material does not substantially impede flexibility of the support member.
Abstract:
A waste collection system for collecting waste during medical/surgical procedures including a mobile container cart (1000) with a waste container (1200). Container cart is selectively coupled to a suction cart (100) that includes a vacuum pump (210). The connection of the carts results in the connection of the vacuum pump to the waste container. The vacuum pump draws a vacuum that results in waste being drawn through a suction line into the waste container.
Abstract:
A vaso - occlusive device (10) includes a first coil (12) made from a first substantially non - expansile material, and a second coil (14) at least partially co-wound with the first coil (12) and made from a second expansile material. The second coil (14) has a contracted state and an expanded state, in which the second coil (14) expands radially and/or longitudinally. The vaso - occlusive device (10) has increased stiffness when the second coil (14) is in its expanded state.
Abstract:
An implantable electrode array (40, 310) that includes multiple spaced apart electrodes (42, 316) to which current can be individually sourced and sunk. The array includes a carrier (80, 312) that supports the electrodes. One or more control modules ( that source current to or sink current from the electrodes are disposed in windows (81, 404) within the carrier.
Abstract:
An ambulance cot loading and unloading apparatus includes a base for mounting to an emergency vehicle deck and an arm mounted for linear movement along the base, which is configured for engaging an ambulance cot. A drive mechanism is provided for raising the arm, which is configured in the presence of an applied force with a first magnitude on the arm to raise the arm at a first speed and in the presence of an applied force on the arm with a second magnitude greater than the first magnitude to raise the arm at another speed or speeds lower than the first speed.
Abstract:
A surgical tool system including a handpiece with a motor and a cutting accessory with a shaft that is rotated by the handpiece motor. The handpiece includes a coupling assembly with plural locking elements for holding the accessory shaft to an output drive shaft that is actuated by the handpiece motor. The locking elements are longitudinally spaced apart from each other. The accessory shaft is formed with retention features against which the handpiece locking elements engage. The shaft retention features are in columns. The retention features in adjacent retention features are longitudinally offset from each other. This allows the coarse or fine adjustment of the extent to which the accessory shaft extends forward from the handpiece coupling assembly.
Abstract:
A surgical tool arrangement including a handpiece which is capable of accepting and operating a number of different surgical tools or instruments adapted for use with the handpiece, each having one or multiple functions. The handpiece incorporates a coupling arrangement located at a distal end thereof which serves to attach the desired surgical instrument to the handpiece via a locking mechanism, and also provides an electrical contact arrangement to support the functioning of an electrosurgical probe as well as a combined mechanical cutting and electrosurgical tool. Additionally, the handpiece accepts a conventional cutter which only requires power for driving a movable cutting element.
Abstract:
An electrode array assembly (28) with a frame that is foldable or bendable (32) on which electrodes (36) are disposed. The frame includes tabs (55) that are spaced from adjacent portions of the frame; the electrodes are disposed on the tabs.
Abstract:
A patient support apparatus includes a support surface, which includes at least one fluid bladder and a recess, and a fluid delivery system configured to deliver fluid to the bladder, with at least a portion of the fluid delivery system being located in the recess. The fluid delivery system includes a pump having a fluid output and a fluid input. The apparatus further includes a chamber wall that defines a chamber in fluid communication with the fluid input or output of the pump, with the chamber wall absorbing vibration from the pump when the pump is operated to output fluid at its fluid output.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to sustained release formulations of biologic agents which permit persistent bioavailability. Preferred biologic agents include bone morphogenetic proteins. Diseases susceptible to amelioration and/or treatment with the formulations of the present invention include skeletal tissue diseases such as, but not limited to, osteoarthritis and other osteochondral diseases. The sustained release formulations of the present invention are especially suitable for treatment of minimally-vascularized or non- vascularized tissue sites such as, but not limited to, intrajoint, interarticular, or intraminiscal sites.
