Abstract: PURPOSE: A method and a device for encoding and decoding an image according to a skip mode are provided to efficiently encode/decode an image in which the same block is repeated in one frame. CONSTITUTION: An image decoding device decodes information about an encoding mode of a current block(1210). The image decoding device decodes the current block based on the decoded mode information(1220). If the current block is encoded in a skip mode, the image decoding device restores the current block by the same or similar block as or to the current block. If the current block is encoded in a natural mode or a graphic mode, the image decoding device restores the current block by inversely performing encoding methods.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding mode information are provided to encode/decode an image using a skip mode, a natural mode, and a graphic mode, thereby guaranteeing low complexity and a proper compression rate. CONSTITUTION: An image encoding apparatus determines whether to encode a current block by a skip mode(1010). When an encoding mode of the current block is not the skip mode, the image encoding apparatus determines the encoding mode of the current block(1020). The image encoding apparatus encodes the current block according to a graphic mode(1030). The image encoding apparatus encodes the current block according to a natural mode(1040). The image encoding apparatus encodes information about the used encoding mode(1050).
