PURPOSE: A digital broadcasting receiver and a stream processing method thereof are provided to process turbo streams in parallel, thereby supporting a process about a multi turbo stream. CONSTITUTION: A digital broadcasting receiver includes the first compression unit, the second compression unit, and a transport stream configuration unit(300). The first compression unit compresses an audio signal and a video signal in the first compression method. The first compression unit configures a normal stream. The second compression unit compresses the audio signal and video signal by the second compression method. The second compression unit configures a turbo stream. The transport stream configuration unit multiplexes the normal stream and the turbo stream. The transport stream configuration unit configures a transport stream. The first compression method is different from the second compression method.

A stream processing apparatus for transceiving and processing streams coded at the 1/3 coding rate, and methods therefor are provided to insert additional data by utilizing the payload region of a packet to generate the streams. A adaptor part(110) receives raw data and then generates a stream consisting of a plurality of packets, and prepares an adaptive field in some of the packets. In the meantime, so that additional data can be inserted into some of the packets, the adaptor part defines a packet having the new PID to generate a stream including the defined packet. An insertion part(120) inserts additional data into the whole payload region of some of packets in which the adaptive field is not prepared among packets within the stream generated in the adaptor part.

A digital broadcasting transmitting and receiving apparatus and a robust stream coding and decoding method applied to the same are provided to have a simple structure although additional coding for improving the performance of a robust stream included in a dual TS(Transport Stream) is performed at various rates. A robust processing unit(207) includes an N/R(Normal/Robust) demultiplexer(207a), a robust encoder(207b), a robust interleaver(207c), and an N/R multiplexer(207e). The N/R demultiplexer(207a) separates a normal stream and a robust stream from a dual TS. The robust encoder(207b) adds the separated robust stream to a parity. The robust interleaver(207c) interleaves the robust stream to which the parity is added. The N/R multiplexer(207e) combines the interleaved robust stream with the separated normal stream.

Thus, reception sensitivity of a digital broadcasting signal can be efficiently improved.
