Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for scanning in a broadband wireless access communication system using multi-hop relay are provided to provides the same service and function between an MSS(Mobile Subscriber Station) and a BS(Base Station), reduce a difference between systems that may be caused by dual signaling between an RS(Relay Station) and the MSS and between the RS and the BS, and match synchronization of a system operation. A message processing unit(811) processes a scan request message received from an MSS. A message generating unit(813) generates a scan response message corresponding to a scan command message including a scanning guide from a BS. An interface module(821) transmits the message from the message generating unit via an antenna. The scanning guide is one of a terminal scan refusal, a terminal scan instruction, and a terminal scan notification. If the scanning guide is the terminal scan instruction, a scan command message including information about a scan schedule and a scan result report required for the MSS is received. If the scanning guide is the terminal scan refusal, a scan section is set as zero and a scan response message is transmitted to the MSS. A control unit(819) provides the message processing unit with a control message received from the MSS or the BS. In addition, the control unit receives a message which is supposed to be transmitted to the MSS or the BS, and then transmits the message to the interface module.

Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for generating a synchronization channel for a RS in a wireless communication system are provided to generate a synchronization channel for the RS by using a sequence value of a synchronization channel and a sequence value of a common mask transmitted from a BS(Base Station) to each MS, thereby lowering complexity in generating the synchronization channel by enabling a downlink synchronization channel transmitted from the BS to the each MS to be separated from the synchronization channel for the RS. A method for generating a synchronization channel for a RS(Relay Station) in a wireless communication system using a multi-hop relay method comprises the following steps of: checking a sequence of a synchronization channel for an MS(Mobile Station) and a predetermined length of a preset sequence(a common mask)(701,703); and generating a sequence of a synchronization channel for the RS by performing XOR operation for the sequence of the synchronization channel for the MS and the predetermined length of the sequence(705).
Abstract:
A periodic ranging system in a sleep mode of a communication system and a method are provided to support periodic ranging operation of an MS(Mobile Station) operated in a sleep mode, thereby offering reliable communication as realizing minimum power consumption and ensuring backward compatibility. A base station checks whether a periodic ranging period comes(611). If so, the base station carries out periodic ranging operation with a corresponding MS(613), and decides whether a time for completing the periodic ranging operation comes(615). If so, the base station transmits an RNG(Ranging)-RSP(Response) message including a next periodic ranging IE(Information Element) to the MS(617). The base station completes the periodic ranging operation with the MS(619).
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for retransmission request in a wireless communication system using a relay are provided to improve the reliability of data received by a receiver, by enabling a relay station to relay data without error to the receiver. According to a method for retransmission request of a relay station(210) in a wireless communication system using a relay, data received from a transmitter are transmitted to a receiver. If a retransmission request message is received from a base station(200), corresponding data are retransmitted to the receiver. In case of forward transmission, the transmitter means the base station and the receiver means a terminal(220). In case of reverse transmission, the transmitter means the terminal and the receiver means the base station.
Abstract:
A retransmission apparatus and a method thereof in a wireless relay communication system are provided to transmit an ARQ(Automatic Retransmission reQuest) feedback message more efficiently, by generating all retransmission request messages for terminals received in the present uplink section as one message. According to a retransmission method of a relay station in a wireless communication system, data is received from a transmitter and the received data is transmitted to more than one receiver. ACK/NACK information of the data are received from the receiver, and the received ACK/NACK information are transmitted to a base station.
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for supporting optimized network reentry procedures in a multi-hop relay BWA(Broadband Wireless Access) communication system are provided to execute optimized network reentry procedures between an RS(Relay Station) and an MS(Mobile Station) by defining the signaling between the RS and a BS(Base Station) in providing MS information to the RS when the MS executes handover. An RS receives an HO(HandOver)-notify message, which indicates the handover of an MS, from a BS(711). The RS executes optimized network reentry procedures with the MS by using information contained in the received HO-notify message(713). While executing the optimized network reentry procedures, the RS judges whether additional MS information is necessary in executing the optimized network reentry procedures(715). If it is judged that additional MS information is necessary, the RS transmits an MS information request message to the BS in order to request additional MS information(717). Then, the RS confirms whether an MS information response message is received from the BS(719).

Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for reporting an MS(Mobile Station)-RS(Relay Station) channel state to provide a transparent relay service to a mobile station in a multi-hop relay BWA(Broadband Wireless Access) communication system are provided to reduce the quantity of channel state information report messages to be reported to a BS(Base Station) by an RS and the overheads of an uplink band to be allocated for the transmission of the channel state information report messages by setting up a terminal signal level threshold and providing it to the RS. An RS receives the information associated with an MS's sounding operation, such as "PAPR_Reduction_Safety_and_Sounding_Zone_Allocation_IE" and "UL_Sounding_Command_IE", from a BS(511). Also the RS receives signal level threshold information from the BS through an RS control information message(513). Afterwards, the RS monitors a sounding signal, which is transmitted from an MS at a sounding zone, and measures the signal level value of the MS(515). The RS compares the measured signal level with the signal level threshold(517). In case the measured signal level is better than the signal level threshold, the RS reports the signal level information of the MS to the BS(519). However, if the measured signal level is not better than the signal level threshold, the RS doesn't report the signal level information of the MS to the BS(521).
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for managing CIDs(Connection IDentifiers) in a multi-hop relay BWA(Broadband Wireless Access) communication system are provided to reduce the contents of management messages, save bandwidths, and achieve efficient communication by separately managing the data which will be transmitted to a relay station from the data which will be relayed to mobile stations in case a base station performs communication with a plurality of mobile stations through the relay station. A base station assembles each data to be transmitted to the downlink and forms the first packet(601). Then, the base station confirms the CIDs of each mobile station which will receive data(602), and checks locations of each mobile station(603). In case a mobile station is connected to a relay station(604), the base station confirms the relay station and judges whether the second packet to be transmitted to the relay station exists(605). Also, the base station confirms repeatedly whether an additional packet to be transmitted exists(606). In case the second packet and the additional packet exist, the base station combines them into a payload(607). The base station assembles a new header with the payload by using the relay CID of the relay station and transmits it to the relay station(609).
