Abstract:
PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) backlight and processing image signal are provided to make it possible to reduce the power consumption of an end user terminal having an LCD panel without lowering of brightness and contrast of image, by adapting brightness and contrast of the image signal based on the adjusted backlight intensity information. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling an LCD backlight and processing image signal comprises the first unit for generating backlight intensity information and the second unit(100) for controlling brightness and contrast of an image signal. The first unit generates backlight intensity information, adjusted for reducing the power consumption of an end user terminal having an LCD panel. The second unit adapts brightness and contrast of the image signal based on the adjusted backlight intensity information and displays the adapted image signal on the LCD. The apparatus makes a user experience image display with undamaged quality by adapting brightness or contrast of the image signal into high-level based on the adjusted backlight intensity information, and simultaneously, reduces the power consumption of the end user terminal.

PURPOSE: A voice activity detection apparatus and a method thereof in a mobile communication system are provided to distinguish a voice section from a background noise section efficiently while taking over the telephone existing the background noise by using peak measurement(PM) of a residual signal of an LPC(Linear Prediction Coefficient). CONSTITUTION: An LPC analyzer(101) receives and analyzes an input voice signal applied, and then extracts an LPC. An LPC mixer(102) reproduces the voice signal from the LPC. An adder(103) adds up the input voice signal and deducts the signal received from the LPC mixer(102) to produce an LPC residual signal. A PM calculating device(104) performs a PM by using the LPC residual signal. A first flag determining device(105) determines a flag by using the value of PM received from the PM calculating device(104). An analysis and flag determining unit analyzes frame energy and characteristic and distribution of frequency and then determines a flag. A VAD(Voice Activity Detection) device(112) determines a VAD by using a flag received from the analysis and flag determining unit.

PURPOSE: A system and a method for coding speech using time division coding algorithm are provided to code speech by detecting the transition time of a transition section and dividing the section in order to obtain improved speech quality of the transition section. CONSTITUTION: A time division speech coder for coding a voiced/voiceless sound transition signal through harmonic speech coding includes an excitation signal transition section analyzer(10). The excitation signal transition section analyzer has a transition time detector, a harmonic excitation signal analyzer, and a harmonic excitation signal adder. The transition time detector detects transition time for grasping the transition section of the transition signal. The harmonic excitation signal analyzer extracts a harmonic model parameter of the detected transition section. The excitation signal transition section adder adds the harmonic model parameter.

PURPOSE: A polar transmitter with a time delay compensation function and an operating method thereof, and a mobile terminal with the same are provided to prevent a time delay when signals are transmitted/received. CONSTITUTION: A baseband signal processing unit(210) outputs a pulse modulation signal for detecting a time delay. An amplitude modulating unit(220) generates an amplitude modulating signal by the pulse modulation signal. A phase modulating unit(230) generates a phase modulating signal by the pulse modulation signal. A time delay compensating unit(250) differentially amplifies the difference between an output of the amplitude modulating unit and an output of the phase modulating unit.

PURPOSE: An authentication system utilizing multi-dimensional patterns of password data through an input device are provided to enhance the stability and accuracy thereof through the comparison between a feature vector and a reference feature vector by extracting an input feature vector from an input behavior pattern of a user. CONSTITUTION: A specific vector generator(110) extracts a feature vector from an inputted pattern of a password. If the inputted password of the feature vector generating unit and reference password of a storage unit(120) are matched, a password comparison unit(130) transmits the feature vector. If the input feature vector and the reference specific vector of the storage unit are matched, a specific vector comparison unit(140) transfers authentication success to a control device(30).

PURPOSE: A phase modulator and a phase modulating method are provided to minimize the performance change of a voltage-controlling oscillator by regulating the frequency of reference modulating signal in which phase modulated signal and channel modulated signal are combined. CONSTITUTION: A first phase-locked loop(PLL) block(410) generates phase modulated signal. A voltage controlling oscillator regulates a frequency based on the phase modulated signal. A second PLL block(450) generates channel modulated signal based on channel information which is determined by reflecting the regulated frequency. The voltage controlling oscillator regulates the frequency of reference modulated signal in which the phase modulated signal and the channel modulated signal are combined. A first frequency divider(440) is fed-back the reference modulated signal from the voltage-controlling oscillator.

PURPOSE: A variable delay and a providing method thereof are provided to execute a universal access through reconfiguration of a signal processing algorithm. CONSTITUTION: A Track & Holder(320) samples the RF signal which is selected in a tunable RF filter to a selected sampling frequency. The Track & Holder generates a uniform phase difference between sample streams by using a clock signal which has a time interval during down-conversion. An analog to digital converter(340) generates a sample stream which has phase difference information in the sampling signal which is down-converted. A complex interpolant(350) eliminates the image component from the sample stream by using the phase difference between a plurality of sample streams.

PURPOSE: A phase modulator and a phase modulating method for compensating the performance change of the modulator are provided to correct the phase modulated value by controlling the phase information of a second phase modulated signal, based on the comparison result of first phase modulated signal and reference phase modulated signal. CONSTITUTION: A voltage-controlling oscillator(610) generates phase modulated signal. A mixer(620) is fed back a first phase modulated signal through the voltage-controlling oscillator. A baseband signal processor compares the first phase modulated signal with reference phase modulated signal. The baseband signal processor(650) controls the phase information of second phase modulated signal, which is generated from the voltage-controlling oscillator. A low-band pass filter low-passes the first phase modulated signal outputted from a mixer.
