    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:A spiropyran compound expressed by formula I (A is bivalent organic residue; B is naphthyl or biphenyl; X is C or S substituted by two alkyl groups). EXAMPLE:1-[2-(alpha-Naphthoyloxy)ethyl]-3,3-dimethyl-6'-nitrospiroindo linobenzpopy ran. USE:Useful as photochromic materials for printing, recording, decoration, etc., having excellent fatigue resistance of coloring and decoloring by light. Resins obtained by blending the compound therein are advantageously usable in optical elements having color changing properties, e.g. sunglasses, photometers or curtains. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II is condensed with 5- nitrosalicylaldehyde or a compound expressed by formula III is reacted with naphthalene or biphenyl derivative to afford the aimed compound formula I.

    Abstract: NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R is CH3 or C2H5) having optically active proline residue. EXAMPLE:L-N-{2-[N'-(3-triethoxysilylpropyl)carbamoyl]ethyl} proline. USE:Surface treating agent for silica gel, etc. Copper is supported on the treated silica gel particle by coordination bond and is used as a filler for the column for high-performance liquid chromatography to separate an optical isomer of e.g. amino acid. The separation coefficient is especially high for amino acids having hydrophilic side chain. PREPARATION:An optically active proline (e.g. L-proline) is made to react with the compound of formula II (e.g. triethoxysilylpropylacrylamide) in a non- aqueous solvent (e.g. methanol).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To raise activity of alcohol yeast after total immobilization, by producing ethanol under an anaerobic condition for a given period and repeating process to activate the totally immobilized yeast under an aerobic condition for a given period. CONSTITUTION:A yeast which is totally immobilized by a photosensive polyvinyl alcohol prepolymer containing a stilbazolium group at the side chain as a photo- responding group is prepared. Ethanol is produced from a glucide by the use of the totally immobilized enzyme under an aerobic condition for a given period. Then, a process to activate the totally immobilized yeast under an aerobic condition for a fixed period is repeated. A photosensive polyvinyl alcohol prepolymer having 500-2,000 polymerization degree, 80-100% saponification degree and 0.7-7.0mol% induction ratio of the stilbazolium group to the prepolyumer molecule is suitable as the photosensitive polyvinyl alcohol prepolymer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain easily an insolubilized polyethyleneimine resin useful as a material for catalyst, adsorbent, etc., by dispersing an aq. soln. of polyethyleneimine in a hydrophobic org. solvent and adding a bisacrylamide thereto to effect a reaction. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln of polyethyleneimine is dispersed in a hydrophobic org. solvent (e.g. hexane or o-dichlorobenzene) by using a surfactant. A bisacrylamide (e.g. N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide) is added to the dispersion to effect a reaction. After the completion of the reaction, the produced particulate polyethyleneimine resin is separated by filtration or centrifugal separation and washed with a solvent to obtain the desired insolubilized polyethyleneimine resin. The resin is excellent in metallic ion adsorptivity and desorption of the adsorbed metallic ions under acidic conditions is easy.
