Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate the absorbance of a sample in a container accurately by receiving a light transmitted through the container, determining the intensity characteristics of transmitted light along the axial direction of the container and the direction perpendicular thereto and then determining the intensity of transmitted light in the center of the container based on the intensity characteristics of transmitted light. SOLUTION: A container 10 is positioned between a light emitting section 14 and a light receiving section 16 using a handier and then the intensity characteristics of transmitted light is determined along the axial direction of the container and the direction perpendicular thereto and stored in a memory 32 at a data processing section 30. The intensity characteristics are compared with a predetermined threshold value and the opposite ends of the container 10 are located thus determining the outline thereof. Subsequently, the center of the container 10 is specified and the intensity of transmitted light in the center is specified in order to calculate the absorbance according to the Lambert's law. According to the method, absorbance of a sample in the container 10 can be measured accurately without requiring any transfer of the sample or troublesome positioning of the container 10.

SOLUTION: An ultrasonic sensor 18 is installed at a nozzle 10, and the inside of a sample 22 is diagnosed ultrasonically via the nozzle 10. An ultrasonic diagnosis part 40 has a function to detect the position of the inside bottom face of a container 20, a function to detect the position of a separating agent contained in the sample 22 and a function to detect the separation of the tip of the nozzle from a level.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a dispensing apparatus whose structure is not made complicated when a level is to be detected by using ultrasonic waves, in which ultrasonic wave power is narrowed down to an object to be inspected and which excludes the influence of an external noise. SOLUTION: A nozzle 10 is constituted of a nozzle base part 12 and of a nozzle tip 14, and an ultrasonic sensor 18 is installed at the nozzle base part 12. The nozzle 10 is lowered, and a sample is cucked up. Then, at a point of time when the sample is sucked up into the tip of the nozzle 10, a change appears in a reception signal. A level inside a container 20 is detected on the basis of the change. In addition, when a change in the reception signal due to the blockade of the tip opening of the nozzle is detected, the level is detected.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To extract blood serum from a blood sampling tube after centrifugation without detaching a sealing plug. CONSTITUTION: A coupler 10 is mounted on a coupler base 12, and a blood sampling tube 14 in an inverted state is interposed into the coupler 10. When a blood sampling needle 25 pierces a sealing plug 22 so as to feed air through first passage 26, blood serum 20 flows out downward through second passage 28 from inside the blood sampling tube 14. The coupler 10 is airtightly held by O rings 32, 36 provided in the coupler base 12. A splash preventive cover 42 is formed at the low end portion 34.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a monitoring method, of a discharge amount and a liquid drip amount, which monitors whether a sample in a required amount has been discharged precisely or not and which monitors the liquid drip amount which is produced when a nozzle tip is moved and to provide its dispensing apparatus. CONSTITUTION:The transmitted light of an optical beam 20 at a tip 36 is detected by a photodetector 24, the quantity of the transmitted light at the tip 36 after a suction operation and before a discharge operation and positional information are stored in a first level memory 80, and the quantity of the transmitted light at the tip 36 after the discharge operation and positional information are stored in a second level memory 82. Then, the quantities of light which are output from both memories 80, 82 are compared and subtracted by a subtracter 86 at the same position, the height of a liquid column before the discharge operation and that after the discharge operation are found respectively by a discharge-amount operation circuit 88, a liquid amount before the discharge operation and that after the discharge operation are found on the basis of the liquid columns and the positional information on the tip 36, and a discharge mount is computed on the basis of the difference between the liquid amount before the discharge operation and that after the discharge operation. The discharge amount which has been computed is compared with a required discharge amount which has been input in advance, and a discharge state is monitored.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a method and an apparatus for sampling and dispensing to suck substantially the whole amount of serum without blocking an end of a nozzle tip. CONSTITUTION:In a step 103, if an internal pressure of an air hose is abruptly lowered to a negative pressure when serum 14 is being sucked, a controller judges that a tip 36 starts to suck a separating agent 12 and stops operations of a piston and X-Y-Z robot, and sucking, dropping of the tip 36 are stopped. In a step 104, a part of the serum 14 in the tip 36 is rapidly discharged after the sucking, dropping of the tip 35 in the step 103 are stopped. It is raised by a predetermined amount in a direction of a Z-axis by the robot. In a step 105, the serum 14 remaining in the tip 36 in the step 103 and the serum 14 partly discharged in the step 104 and remained in the step 104 are taken into the tip 36.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a method for detecting leakage in an automatic dispensing device, whereby leakage is objectively judged by measuring of the internal pressure of a pump connected to a nozzle chip. CONSTITUTION:In step 202, a pump sucks distilled water 90 and if the internal pressure P1 of the pump after suction approximates atmospheric pressure, leakage is recognized as taking place. In step 203, after the internal pressure P1 of the pump after suction is measured in step 202, a chip 36 is not raised but stopped for e.g. thirty minutes and the internal pressure P2 of the pump is measured again using a pressure sensor. When the internal pressure P2 differs from the previously measured internal pressure P1, leakage is recognized as taking place. In step 204, the distilled water 90 sucked is discharged into identical test tubes 62, and while the internal pressure of the pump is monitored by the pressure sensor, leakage is recognized as taking place if there is an abrupt fluctuation in the internal pressure. Therefore, measurement for detection of leakage is completed when the leakage is detected.

Abstract: PURPOSE:Ti improve the dispensing reliability of a dispensing device by detecting the pressure in a nozzle immediately before the completion of sample discharge and discriminating the generation of bubbles based on a preset threshold. CONSTITUTION:A sample is sucked and discharged by means of a pump 16 through a disposable nozzle 10 and air hose 14 by controlling vertical and lateral movement of the nozzle 10 by means of an XYZ robot 12. A pressure sensor 22 detects and signalizes the pressure in the nozzle 10, namely, in the hose 14. The signal is sent to a control section 30 through a limiter circuit 26 and A/D converter 28. The discrimination circuit 32 of the section 30 compares the pressure detecting value immediately before the completion of sample discharge with a threshold stored in a memory 34 and, when the value exceeds the threshold, discriminates the generation of bubbles and warns the operator of an insufficiency in discharge by generating an alarm. Therefore, the dispensing accuracy of this dispensing device can be improved, because the operator can take a necessary measure.
