Abstract:
The invention provides a thermoformable sheet comprising a resinous polymer of propylene and an effective amount of a beta-spherulite nucleating agent, a process for making the sheet and articles thermoformed from the sheet.
Abstract:
An electro-optical signal translator, signal translator design features, methods of fabrication, alignment techniques and alignment apparatus that utilize, with the exception of output optical fiber to transmitter module coupling, passive assembly techniques that are compatible with assembly line operations to produce high performance electro-optical signal translators.
Abstract:
An optical mounting (10) is disclosed having a base (12) and receiving means (14) for receiving an optical component (40). The receiving means (14) has a wall (24) of generally elastic material which has a circumferential exterior groove (28) such that when opposite ends of the wall (24) are compressed together a portion of the interior surface of the wall (24) is moved inwardly to fix the position of the optical component (40) relative to the wall (24). The base (12) and the receiving means (14) are connected together by a thin bendable tube (20).
Abstract:
An electro-optical modulation system comprising optical modulator means for pulse-modulating an incoming light beam in response to a pulsed RF input signal and to a bias signal and for producing a pulse-modulated optical output which is characterized by a plurality of enveloped pulses, optical detector means (17) for producing an electrical signal which is representative of the output from the optical modulator means, average detecting means (19) for producing pulse envelope signals which are representative of the envelopes of the pulses, and a bias control circuit (20), using a plurality of pulse envelope signals, for producing the bias signal as a function of the pulse envelopes.
Abstract:
A method of providing a transistor as for use in an array includes using the gate structure as a mask, allowing phosphorus ion implantation of portions of an a-Si:H layer or by providing additional phosphorus-doped silicon portions for ohmic contacts to transistor source and drain. The crossovers of the source and gate connection lines are insulated by a-Si:H/SiNx layers or by insulating with a layer of a polyimide during the processing sequence. Redundancy of both transistor and crossover increase yield in an array.
Abstract:
Direct label probe compositions which counterstain genomic DNA are provided that comprise mixed DNA segments which are covalently bound to fluorophore groups through linking groups. The mixed DNA segments are derived from the total genomic DNA of a multi-chromosomal organism, especially man, and the segment mixture is approximately representative of such total genomic DNA. These probe compositions can be used concurrently or sequentially with other probe compositions. Instead of intercalating with DNA as in prior art chemical counterstains, these probe compositions hybridize with complementary segments that are present in the genomic DNA of a specimen.
Abstract:
A chemical resistant copolymer useful in electronic applications, said copolymer is a polyimide containing a 3,3',4,4'-tetracarboxybiphenyl dianhydride (BPDA) moiety, at least one other dianhydride moiety, and at least one diamine.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a pre-treatment method for swellable solid carbonaceous materials, and especially coal, which enhances hydroliquefaction yields and product quality in which a swelling agent and a catalyst are mixed with the solid carbonaceous materials to be hydroliquified for a time and at conditions sufficient to cause swelling of the solid carbonaceous materials and to deposit catalyst thereon. Thereafter, the swelling agent may be removed prior to the hydroliquefaction of the swollen solid carbonaceous materials. Enhanced liquefaction yields may also be obtained by prehydrogenation accomplished in the pre-treatment method by subjecting the solid carbonaceous material/catalyst/swelling agent mixture to hydrogen under a relatively mild pressure as compared to pressures used in liquefaction processes.
Abstract:
A process is disclosed for preparing a polyethylene phthalate or polyethylene naphthalate having a predetermined intrinsic viscosity which involves the direct esterification of a phthalic acid or a naphthalene dicarboxylic acid with ethylene glycol followed by the polycondensation of the esterification product using a polycondensation catalyst system containing cobalt, manganese-, and antimony-containing components.
Abstract:
This invention relates to an adhesion promoting composition and method for its use for promoting adhesion of printed circuits on thermoplastic substrates. The composition includes isopropanol with either methylene chloride or resorcinol. An added ingredient includes polycyclohexanone. The preferred substrate is polyarylsulfone.
