Abstract: Crude ammonia is separated into a low boiler fraction, a high boiler fraction and an intermediate-boiling pure fraction by continuous fractional distillation in a distillation apparatus configured either as a dividing wall column or as a system of thermally coupled distillation columns. In the process of the present invention, the low boiler fraction is taken off at the top of the distillation apparatus. The intermediate-boiling pure fraction is obtained at a side offtake which is preferably provided with droplet precipitators. In addition, the gas loading of the distillation column is restricted so that the operating pressure is in the range from 2 to 30 bar and the F factor does not exceed 2.0 Pa 0.5 .

The head of the distillation apparatus is positioned above the tapping outlet for the higher m.p. substance (2). Part of the condenser surface is of lower temperature than that of the higher m.p. substance. The light substance (1) in th head is strongly enriched, preventing separation of the higher m.p. substance (2) on the condenser.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing alkane sulfonic acid, comprising the following steps: (a) oxidizing alkyl mercaptans and/or dialkyldisulfides and/or dialkylpolysulfides having three to nine sulfur atoms with nitric acid to give alkane sulfonic acids, water, nitrogen oxides and further by-products, (b) regenerating the nitrogen oxides obtained in step (a) with oxygen to give nitric acid and feeding the nitric acid to step (a). Steps (a) and (b) are carried out in separate reaction spaces.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing organic disulfides by oxidizing mercaptans with sulfur which is dissolved in an organic disulfide and using an amine as the catalyst. Said mercaptans are used as "crude mercaptan flow" from a reaction of alcohols with hydrosulfide on a catalyst suitable for the synthesis of mercaptan. The invention also relates to the use of said organic disulfides for producing alkane sulfonic acids.
