    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a substance having a comparatively high melting point from being deposited in a cooler in a distillation apparatus. SOLUTION: This distillation apparatus is used for continuously separating a substance 2 (having a comparatively high melting point) from a starting material mixture which comprises the substance 2 and a low boiling point component 1 (having a low melting point and a higher boiling point than that of the substance 2). The cooler is provided at the top of a distillation column of the distillation apparatus above a discharging port of the substance 2. The temperature of a contact surface part where vapor from the distillation column is contacted with the cooler is controlled to be lower than the melting point of the substance 2. For example the substance 2 is one of various isomers of dimethylhexanediol and the component 1 is a low boiling point alcohol.

SOLUTION: The method is performed by using a distillation apparatus composed of either a dividing wall column or a thermally combination coupled distillation column and fractionating the unpurified ammonia with a continuous operation to obtain a fraction of low boiling point components, a fraction of high boiling point components and a fraction of a purified component showing intermediate boiling point, the fraction of the low boiling point components is discharged from the top of the distillation column, the fraction of the pure component showing the intermediate boiling point is collected from a column side discharge part and the high purity ammonia is obtained by the method capable of controlling the quantity of the gases in the distillation column so that operation pressure is 2-30 bar and the F-factor does not exceed 2.0 Pa0.5.

    Abstract: Crude ammonia is separated into a low boiler fraction, a high boiler fraction and an intermediate-boiling pure fraction by continuous fractional distillation in a distillation apparatus configured either as a dividing wall column or as a system of thermally coupled distillation columns.
