    Abstract: (A) Pyridine derivs. of formula (I) and their N-oxides, mineral acid salts and metal complexes are new: X = OH; Y = OCHO, OCOW3R3 or OSO2W3R3; or X+Y = O, OCH(W3R3)O, OCH(OW3R4)O or OC(W3R3)(OW4R4)O; W1-W4 = direct bonds, CH2, CH2CH2, CHMe, CH2O or CH2S; R1-R4 = (a) 1-6C alkyl opt. substd. by halogen or 3-8C cycloalkyl, (b) 3-8C cycloalkyl opt. substd. by 1-3 of 1-6C alkyl, (c) 1-4C alkyl substd. by 1-4C alkoxy or alkylthio, (d) 2-6C alkenyl, etc., or R2 may be H when X+Y = OCH(W3R3)O, or OC(W3R3)(OW4R4)O and W2 is a direct bond; except for: cis-1-(2,4-dichlorophenyl) -2-(3-pyridyl)-1,2 -epoxypropane; trans-1-(2,4 -dichlorophenyl) -2-(3-pyridyl) -1,2-epoxypropane; etc.. Intermediates of formula (II) are also new provided that: (a) R1W1 is not H (sic), vinyl, phenyl or 3-pyridyl when R2W2 = H; (b) R1W1 is not 2,4-dichlorophenyl when R2W2 = Me; (c) R2W2 is not phenyl or 4-methoxyphenyl when R1W1 = phenyl; (d) W2 is not CH2 or CHMe when R1 = H (sic) or 1-5C alkyl, R2 = opt. substd. phenyl and W1 is a direct bond.
