Abstract: 11,558. Bommer, E. June 2. Making hinges.-Butt and spring hinges are made by covering the steel or cast-iron foundation by sheets b, b , Figs. 2 and 3, of brass, bronze, &c. The sheets are united by lock-seams b , b which are crowded by dies into the corners. The jackets b are closed at their upper and lower edges by lockseams b , the metal over the screw holes o being forced into them at one side and stamped out at the other. In a spring hinge, Fig. 5, one flap a' is made of brass &c. and provided with perforated ears e. The flange a is made integral with the barrel a and formed of two overlapping layers riveted together, and covered, together with the collar c and pintle guide-sockets c , with brass &c. sheets connected by lock-seams j , j , j . The lockseam j is made to project similarly to the projecting edge of the flange a'.
