The sulfoperoxycarboxylic compounds of the invention are storage stable, water soluble and have low to no odor. Further, the compounds of the present invention can be formed from non-petroleum based renewable materials. The compounds of the present invention can be used as antimicrobials, and bleaching agents.     Abstract: Disclosed is a two-part disinfecting system comprising a first part and a second part adapted to be mixed to yield an aqueous disinfecting composition, wherein the first part comprises a chlorite and the second part comprises an acid, and wherein the first part, the second part, or both the first and second parts contain an olefin compound effective at reducing chlorine dioxide generation having the formula: (R1)CH=CH(R2)(X) where R1 = [[H-]], CH3- ,CH3(CH2)n- , CH3(CH2)nCH(OH)- , and MO2C(CH2)n- ; n = 1-20; R2 = --(CH2)m- ,- CH(CH2)mCO2M; m= 2-20; M = H, Na, K, Ca, Mg, ammonia, or an organic cation; and X = a hydrophilic group having at least four heteroatoms selected from the group consisting of oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, chlorine, bromine, fluorine, iodine, phosphorous and mixtures thereof, wherein there are at least two saturated carbon atoms between (R1)CH=CH and a heteroatom and a saturated carbon is a carbon free of double and triple bonds and the olefin compound is present in the first part, the second part, or both the first part and second part so that, when the first part and the second part are combined, the olefin compound is present within the disinfecting composition at a concentration ranging from about 0.005% to about 50% by weight, and wherein the acid is present in the second part in an amount so that, when combined with the first part, the pH of the disinfecting composition is between about 2 and about 5.
