Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having high performance by providing an apparatus with means for evaporating a magnetic material and means for supplying the material at different positions of a crucible in a vessel of a substantially annular structure. CONSTITUTION:The apparatus for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium comprises a cooling can 1, a supply side roll 2 of a nonmagnetic support 21, a winding side roll 3 of the support 21, a shielding plate 4, a magnetic alloy 5 such as Co-Ni, etc., an electron gun 6, a vacuum vessel 7, etc. Further, the apparatus is provided with a crucible 8 formed into a ring state by heating and burning a carbon fiber material, particularly a carbon fiber cloth between an inner mold and an outer mold molded from ceramic materials such as MgO, etc. An upper opening is shielded by a shield 9 except a part to be irradiated by an electron beam from the gun 6, an induction heating coil 10 is disposed at a predetermined position of the crucible 8, the alloy 5 is preheated, and the crucible 8 is rotated in a direction of the arrow. Particles 5a of the alloy are supplied to the crucible 8 by a supply unit 11, evaporated by the beam from the gun 6, to continuously preferably form a magnetic film of a uniform thickness.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium being excellent in a running property and an antistatic effect by a method wherein a nonmagnetic film is colored in a prescribed thickness in a different color from the color of a magnetic film. CONSTITUTION:On the rear side of a nonmagnetic substrate 1 such as a PET film, a back coat film 2 being a nonmagnetic film of a metal thin film type is formed by a method wherein evaporated particles of Ti welded on a cooling can roll are deposited on the substrate 1 guided by a supply-side roll whereon the substrate 1 is wound and by a take-up-side roll in a vacuum evaporation apparatus. On the surface side of the substrate 1, a magnetic film 3 is formed by a method wherein magnetic metals of 80at.% Co-20at.% Ni are evaporated by heating with an electron beam of an electron gun, made to hit on the substrate 1 and deposited thereon, and after the surface of the film 3 is oxidized forcedly, a lubricating film 4 is formed. Besides, the magnetic film 3 is colored in brown so as to facilitate discrimination of the surface and the rear of a recording medium and further to facilitate thereby the detection of nonuniformity in the film thickness of the magnetic film 3 and a pinhole thereof. By these methods, a magnetic recording medium being excellent in a running property, an antistatic effect and a reproducing characteristic and facilitating a quality check is obtained.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high reproduced output by running a longsized supporting body tilting at an angle to magnetic particles which come flying to obtain the magnetic recording medium where the scanning direction of a VTR and the growing direction of magnetic particles approximately coincide with each other. CONSTITUTION:A supply roll 2a, a cooling can 1, and a take-up roll 2b are so attached that their axes are inclined at an angle alpha to the horizontal direction. Consequently, the supporting body 3 which is wound up around the take-up roll 2b from the supply roll 2a through the cooling can 1 is constituted at the angle alpha to the perpendicular direction. A magnetic metal 5 in a crucible 4 is evaporated by heating with a resistance, a high frequency, an electron beam, or the like after a vacuum vessel 6 is evacuated to the degree of the vacuum in a prescribed range, and the magnetic metal 5 is vapor-deposited to the supporting body 3 like a PET film to obtain the metallic thin film magnetic recording medium.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent magnetic characteristics, such as coercive force and saturation magnetic flux density, and having excellent durability and corrosion resistance by applying an oxidative gas approximately perpendicularly to the metallic thin film surface at the time of deposition of a magnetic material on a substrate or right after deposition. CONSTITUTION:Gaseous oxygen O2 is blown from a nozzle port 8a of a nozzle 8 to the part of the substrate 3 where the magnetic metal 6 in a crucible 5 is deposited by evaporation and the surface layer part of the thin film of the magnetic metal 6 is forcibly oxidized at the time of forming the thin film of the magnetic material on the substrate 3. The nozzle 8a of the nozzle 8 is so disposed as to make the spraying angle of the gaseous oxygen O2 approximately perpendicular in such a manner that the gaseous oxygen O2 is blown immediately at the moment when the magnetic metal 6 is deposited and the magnetic thin film is formed. The magnetic thin film is formed in such a manner and is subjected to an oxidation treatment. After the substrate 3 is taken up on a take-up side roll 2b, the take-up side roll 2b is taken out and a coating material for back coating is applied on the side opposite from the magnetic layer. A coating material for lubrication is applied on the magnetic surface and is dried.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a magnetic layer of uniform thickness with a high yield by disposing a deposition preventing material between a container of a magnetic material and a supporting body on which vaporized magnetic particles are to be deposited and providing the deposition preventing material with a magnet. CONSTITUTION:This device is equipped with a deposition preventing plate 4 having a rotatable disk structure consisting of a permanent magnet. Even when the deposition amt. of magnetic particles on the plate 4 exceeds the limit, magnetic particles are magnetically held by the magnet and do not drop. Thus, contamination of the vacuum chamber 7 with magnetic particles can be effectively prevented. Such a problem that the deposited material drops on the crucible 5 to cause sudden change in the vaporization conditions of magnetic metal can be prevented. Thus, a high performance magnetic recording medium with uniform deposition amt. of magnetic particles can be efficiently produced.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a durability and a corrosion-resistance by a method wherein a metal thin film magnetic layer is formed on a supporter and a protective layer made of diamond-like carbon is formed on it and the hydrophile contact angle of the surface of the protective layer is not larger than a specific value and a lubrication layer made of fluorine system lubricant with hydrophilic radicals is formed on the protective layer. SOLUTION: A thin film magnetic layer 11 made of metal such as Co, Fe, etc., is formed on a PET film 1 and a diamond-like carbon(DLC) protective film 12 is formed on it by a CVD method, etc. Further, after an A1-O metal thin film backing layer 13 is formed on the side the PET film 1 opposite to the side of the metal thin film magnetic layer 11, a water spray is applied to have the hydrophile contact angle of the surface of the DLC protective film 12 not larger than 75 degrees. After that, a spray of solution obtained by diluting fluorine based libricant having hydrophilic radicals with toluene is applied to the DLC protective film 12 and the backing layer 13 by an ultrasonic sprayer to form lubrication layers 14 and 15. With this constitution, a stable lubricating function can be obtained for a long term and a still durability and a corrosion- resistance can be improved.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium exhibiting stable output and high S/N ratio by obtaining a magnetic recording medium small in the difference between the output in a 1st angle direction to the medium and the output in a 2nd angle direction different from the 1st angle direction. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium obtained by forming one or more magnetic layers on a long size non-magnetic supporting body is formed so as to reduce the difference between the output in the 1st angle direction and the output in the 2nd angle direction different from the 1st angle direction. In such a case, the difference between the 1st angle and the 2nd angle to the longitudinal direction of the non-magnetic supporting body is preferably controlled to 20 deg. in the view point of measurement. In the case of producing the magnetic recording medium, the magnetic recording medium obtained by film- forming a protective layer at first on a PET film on which a single layer of a metal cobalt magnetic layer is formed, applying a fluorine based lubricant and vapor depositing a back coat layer on the surface opposite to the magnetic layer is cut at 0 deg. and 20 deg. to the longitudinal direction to manufacture a desired video set.
