    Abstract: Sulfur-containing, oil-soluble compositions are described which are useful as lubricating oil additives, particularly in lubricants containing little or no phosphorus. In one embodiment, the compositions of the invention comprise (A) at least one metal salt of at least one dithiocarbamic acid of the formula R1(R2)N-CSSH (I) wherein R1 and R2 are each independently hydrocarbyl groups in which the total number of carbon atoms in R1 and R2 is sufficient to render the metal salt oil-soluble, (B) at least one oil-soluble sulfurized organic compound, and (C) at least one auxiliary corrosion-inhibitor. In other embodiments, the compositions also contain (D) at least one detergent/dispersant. Lubricating oil compositions containing the compositions of the invention exhibit improved oxidation-corrosion-inhibiting properties, anti-wear properties, and/or extreme pressure properties. Such lubricating compositions containing less than about 0.1% by weight of phosphorus also exhibit good compatability with nitrile seals.

    Abstract: The mixtures comprise a combination of (A) at least one alkylphenol of the formula (R)a-AF-(OH)b (I) where each R is, independently, an essentially saturated, hydrocarbon-based group containing on average at least approx. 10 aliphatic carbon atoms; a, b and c are each independently an integer which is up to three times the number of aromatic nuclei which are present in Ar, with the proviso that the sum of a, b and c does not exceed the free valencies in Ar, and Ar is an aromatic molecule moiety which is a simple ring, a fused ring or a bound polynuclear ring which has from 0 to 3 optional substituents which are essentially selected from lower alkyl, lower alkoxyl, carboalkoxymethylol or lower hydrocarbon-based substituted methylol, nitro, nitroso, halogen and combinations of these optional substituents, and (B) at least one amino compound, with the proviso that the amino compound is not an amino phenol. Lubricants and mixtures of lubricating oil and fuel for two-stroke engines, including the abovementioned mixtures, are also encompassed by the invention. The lubricating mixtures exhibit a superior corrosion resistance and less deposition of varnish in the engine, and make the engine cleaner.
