Abstract:
An access terminal (AT) and a data-optimized cellular communication radio network (RN) negotiate a set of packet sizes for use on a reverse link between the AT and the RN. The negotiated set of packet sizes may differ from the default set of packet sizes defined in an existing standard, such as 1xEV-DO Revisions A and B. The packet sizes in the negotiated set may be tailored to provide a good fit with an application transmitting data on the reverse link, such as a voice encoder of a voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application. The AT and the RN communicate using the negotiated set of packet sizes. The packet sizes of the negotiated set may be mapped to the same reverse rate indicator (RRI) channel codewords as are defined in systems operating under the standard. Packing efficiency is thus increased, and higher capacity for delay-sensitive applications is achieved.
Abstract:
A method and system for providing asymmetric modes of operation in multi- carrier wireless communication systems. A method may assign a long code mask (LCM) to an information channel associated with a plurality of forward link carriers to transmit data from an access network to an access terminal; and multiplex the information channel on a reverse link carrier. The information channel may include one of data source channel (DSC), data rate control (DRC) and acknowledgment (ACK) information, and the multiplexing may be code division multiplexing (CDM). The A may instruct the AT on whether to multiplex the DSC information based on feedback from the AT. The method may further offset the ACK information on the reverse link to reduce the reverse link peak to average, CDM the information channel on an I-branch and on a Q-branch, and transmit the code division multiplexed information channel on the reverse link carrier.
Abstract:
Abstract:
Abstract:
Systems and methods for managing communication in an unlicensed band of frequencies to supplement communication in a licensed band of frequencies in unlicensed spectrum are disclosed. The management may comprise, for example, monitoring utilization of resources currently available to a first Radio Access Technology (RAT) via at least one of a Primary Cell (PCell) operating in the licensed band, a set of one or more Secondary Cells (SCells) operating in the unlicensed band, or a combination thereof. Based on the utilization, a first SCell among the set of SCells may be configured or de-configured with respect to operation in the unlicensed band.
Abstract:
Interference that occurs during wireless communication may be managed by determination of a selected transmit waveform exhibiting a preferred channel quality. A method, apparatus and medium of communication determine a transmit waveform from among a plurality of allocated waveforms of an unplanned access point to an associated access terminal. The transmit waveform exhibiting a highest channel quality with an associated access terminal over others of the plurality of allocated waveforms is determined. Signals are transmitted according to the transmit waveform from the unplanned access point to the associated access terminal.
Abstract:
A security system is applied to venue-cast content transmissions over a broadcast/multicast network infrastructure. The broadcast network infrastructure may be Evolution-Data Only Broadcast Multicast Services (BCMCS) that facilitates distribution of a subscription-based content delivery service. A venue-cast service can be part of the subscription-based content delivery service and has an associated service key. Upon subscribing to the content delivery service, the subscriber access terminal is given the service key. Such service key may be associated with a particular subscriber package and/or venue location. The same service key is provided to the broadcast network infrastructure that broadcasts venue-cast content. A broadcast access key is generated by the broadcast network infrastructure and used to encrypt venue-specific content to be broadcasted. Consequently, only access terminals that have received the service key (e.g., subscribe to the associated subscription package and/or are located at a specific venue or location) can decrypt the broadcasted content.

Abstract:
Techniques for efficiently sending and receiving data in a wireless communication system are described herein. The techniques utilize a slot structure that is backward compatible with existing design. The techniques include sending and receiving forward link packets that occupy less than a full slot of the slot structure. An output waveform, which includes at least one slot, is generated at an access point. Each slot is segmented into two half-slots, wherein at least one half-slot includes a data unit of a packet. At a terminal, the output waveform is received and processed to extract the data unit and the data unit is processed to determine whether it is accurate. The terminal also generates ACK/NACK information in response to the results of processing the data unit and transmits channel information including the ACK/NACK information. The access point interprets the ACK/NACK information to determine if the data unit should be resent.
