Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and low-cost bidrectional optical communication apparatus and bidirectional communication device where a duplex method communication is allowed with a single optical fiber, for less transmission loss both in transmission and reception. SOLUTION: A transmission light 8 emitted from a light-emitting element 4 is condensed by a transmission lens 6 and then coupled to an optical fiber 2 through an optical member 10. A reception light 9 irradiated from the optical fiber 2 is reflected and condensed on a reflection mirror 7 formed at the optical member 10 and coupled to a light-receiving element 4. The transmission light 8 reflected on the end surface of the optical fiber 2 is reflected on a light- shielding part 16 which is a part of the reflection mirror, not coupled to the light receiving element 4.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive and small sized bi-directional optical communication device and bi-directional optical communication equipment in which the whole duplex system communication is performed by one optical fiber and whose transmitting loss in both transmission and reception is small. SOLUTION: Transmitting light 13 radiated from a light emitting element 4 is condensed by a transmission lens 6, passes through the opening part 9 of an optical separation element 8 and is combined to the optical fiber 2. Receiving light 15 radiated from the optical fiber 2 is reflected by a curved surface-like reflecting surface 10 formed on the surface of the optical separation element 8 and is combined to the light receiving element 4. A part of transmitting light 13 (reflected transmitting light 14) reflected by the end surface of the optical fiber 2 whose end surface is inclined is reflected in the outside of the reflecting surface 10 and is not combined to the light receiving element 4.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing an organic polymer film by which a soot generated in processing an organic polymer film by laser beam irradiation can be efficiently removed in a simple step without deterioration of the surface smoothness of the organic polymer film and to provide a structure having excellent performance provided with the organic polymer film processed by the method, for example, a multilayer wiring structure with high reliability and high density, an optical device with low light loss and ease in integration, or the like. SOLUTION: A portion of an organic polymer film 6 is removed by locally irradiating the organic polymer film 6 with a laser beam by the use of an eximer laser excitation device 1, and then, a plasma treatment with a gas containing a nitrogen atom is carried out. By the above method, a soot generated on the surface of the organic polymer film 6 in processing by the irradiation with a laser beam can be selectively etched away and removed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic optical waveguide facilitating integration with other optical elements and generating fewer residues in machining by reactive ion etching(RIE) by providing a clad part made of an inorganic dielectric body covering a core part and having a refraction index lower than that of the core part. SOLUTION: In an organic light waveguide, a silicon oxide film serving as a buffer layer 2 is formed on a board 1 made of silicone or the like, and a core part 3 made of organic polymer is formed on the buffer layer 2. On the core part 3, an upper part clad 4 serving as a mask, which is an upper clad made of an inorganic dielectric body and serves as a mask in machining of the core part 3 by RIE, is formed. An over clad 5 made of an inorganic dielectric body is formed on the clad 4 so as to cover the core part 3. As the inorganic dielectric body for the clads 4, 5, a material with a refraction index lower than that of the core part 3 is selected. As the inorganic dielectric body, silicon oxide is available, for example.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance an S/N ratio by preventing light signals for communication from intefering at the time of bidirectional optical communication. SOLUTION: This bidirectional optical communication module using a single core fiber and the optical communication system using the module have on the same substrate a light emitting element 4 for generating signal light, a transmitting optical waveguide 7a for guiding the signal light from the element 4 to an optical fiber 3, a light receiving element 5 for receiving the signal light to convert it into an electric signal, and an receiving optical waveguide 7b for guiding the signal light from the optical fiber 3 to the element 5. The waveguides 7a, 7b are provided optically independently, the waveguide 7a is formed into an L-shape, one side of the L-shape has a function as a transmitting waveguide, and the other side of it has a function as a shielding plate. A light output from a light emitting element source and leaked light from the transmitting waveguide get incident reducedly into a photodetector to enhance an S/N ratio of a photodetector output.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a deformable mirror which is strong against vibration and a temp. change by fixing a flexible member to be held in between a first substrate and a second substrate and changing over spherical abberations to be applied to light beams to be reflected on a reflection surface while making the member to be attracted to a first reference surface or a second reference surface by a driving device. SOLUTION: A deformable mirror 10 is constituted of a flexible member 1, the first substrate 4 of a lower side, the second substrate 6 of an upper side and a driving device 9. The flexible member 1 is made so that an elastic deformation is possible and has a reflection surface capable of reflecting light beams on its surface of one side. A first reference surface 4a capable of applying a spherial abberation to the light beams when the flexible member 1 is absorped to it is formed on the substrate 4. The substrate 6 is made of transparent material and a second reference surface 4b capable of applying a spherical abberation to the light beams when the flexible member 1 is attracted to it is formed on the substrate 6. The reference surface 4b has the curvature of a direction opposite to that of the reference surface 4a. The flexible member 1 is absorted to one side of either the reference surface 4a or the reference surface 4b by the absorption changeover of the driving device 9.

SOLUTION: This mirror is provided with a flexible member 2 which can be elastically deformed with its surface as a reflecting plane, and a columnar substrate 7 which is arranged on the rear surface side of this flexible member 2 and has an inside rugged part 4 and an outside rugged part 5 formed at sections facing the rear surface of the flexible member. Then, the flexible member 2 is attracted to the rugged parts 4 and 5, the form of its rear surface is changed, the spherical aberration is changed based on the surface form of the inside rugged part 4 and the numerical apertures is changed based on the surface form of the outside rugged part 5.
