PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a degree of freedom in using content, while preventing content duplication without restriction. SOLUTION: When the supplied content is the content of "copy permitted only for one generation" and recording it on an HDD (hard disk drive) 25 is directed by a user, the content for move is created based on the original content, and recorded on a content recording part 56 for move. In a movable content list which is displayed by a list display section 58, a title of the content for move is not displayed, the content for move is made so that its move can be handled by the title of the original content. When the move of the content is directed, the move using the content for move is performed. This invention is applicable to equipment which can record the content broadcasted by digital broadcasting. SOLUTION: Output systems are controlled so that digital data are outputted through only one specified output system out of the output systems in accordance with the contents of copy restriction based on management data. Therefore, the digital data are not outputted through a plurality of output systems only when there is copy restriction based on management data, the copy restriction can be applied, such that unlimited dubbing can be avoided in advance from being executed through a plurality of output systems. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably protect broadcast contents being stored in a receiver side, from unapproved copy or wrong use use in server type broadcasting. SOLUTION: A content is sent from a broadcast sending side in such a state that copyright information of the content is added to the content. On a receiving client side coping with server type digital broadcasting, proper control for reproducing of the content and reservation for recording can be performed on the basis of copyright information of the content such as a frequency in reproducing of the content, restrictions on display resolution at the time of reproducing the content, and an available period of reproducing of the content. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply proper processing to a reproduced transport stream by discriminating whether the reproduced transport stream results from a multi- program receiving system or a single program recording system in a receiver for digital broadcast, whose output transport stream is recorded/reproduced by a recording/reproducing device and in a decoding method for the transport stream. SOLUTION: For example, analyzing PAT data of a reproduced signal from, e.g. the digital recording/reproducing device discriminates whether the transport stream reproduced by the digital recording/reproducing device is a stream consisting of a plurality of programs. When the stream consists of a plurality of programs, the stream is discriminated to be a transport stream resulting from the multi-program recording system. Video or audio packets of a program with the smallest program number among those of a plurality of the programs are selected and decoded. Or the transport stream is not decoded, the video or audio data are muted, or a warning indicating unavailability of reproduction is displayed.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To deter unauthorized use of contents. SOLUTION: A key management section 31 discriminates whether an authentication key of an application is regular and controls a contents protection section 25 to execute transmission/reception of the contents of the application, only when the key management section 31 decides that the contents are regular. An encrypting/decoding section 32 enciphers the decoded contents by using an cryptographic key entered from the key management section 31 and provides an output of the result to a cipher information adding section 33. The cipher information adding section 33 adds cipher information to the ciphered contents from the ciphering and deciphering section 32 to provide an output of the result to the application.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record audio video data coded by an ATRAC method just as it is without decoding. SOLUTION: A control part 81 controls process of a PID detection part 82 by corresponding to the specified information inputted from a start.stop bit detection part 83 or an ATRAC data extraction part 88. The PID detection part 82 extracts only the TS packet having a specified PID (the PID indicating the TS packet provided with ATRAC data) among the TS packet inputted and outputs to a start.stop bit detection part 83 or the ATRAC data extraction part 88 of the post stage. The ATRAC data extraction part 88 extracts the ATRAC data provided at the 30th byte or the 188th byte of the TS packet inputted from the PID detection part 82 and output the data to the post stage.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely reproduce a signal even by a device that has no function of descrambling scrambled data, while protecting copyrights. SOLUTION: When a provider which provides a program enters a contract with a contractor to view the program, the contractor informs the provider of a model number of a display device to view the program. The provider discriminates whether or not the display device can process a signal of an HD image and has a unit to descramble scrambled data or the like on the basis of the informed model number of the display device. The server sets information about no scrambling by a scramble section 18 to a smart card 15 in with respect to a display device that can process the HD image but has not provision for descrambling the scrambled data.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the confusion of a user by generating a reproducing program explanation screen based on program explanation information added to reproducing data and inhibiting the display of unrequired information regardless of the time of reproduction at the time of displaying the reproducing program explanation screen. SOLUTION: A CPU 6 controls a multiplexer 10 and an MPEG video decoder and graphics circuit 11 based on program explanation screen request data. That is, a program explanation information stream composed of a packet describing the program explanation information is extracted in the multiplexer 10 and is supplied to the MPEG video decoder and graphics circuit 11 as a reception program explanation screen generation means and a graphics processing is executed. In this case, at the time of generating and displaying the reproducing program explanation screen based on the program explanation information added to the reproducing data by using the program explanation screen generation means at the time of generating the reception program explanation screen based on the program explanation information added to received program data, the unrequired information is not displayed regardless of the time of the reproduction.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To conduct proper processing by discriminating whether a reproduced transport stream is of a multiple program recording system or a signal program recording system in a digital broadcast reception and recording/reproducing system where a recording/reproducing device records/reproduces a transport stream from a digital broadcast receiver. SOLUTION: Whether or not a transport stream reproduced by a digital recording/reproducing device is a stream of a plurality of programs is discriminated by analyzing data of a program association table PAT of a reproduced signal from, e.g. a recording/reproducing device. When the stream consists of a plurality of the programs, the stream is discriminated to be the transport stream of the multi-program recording system, a video packet and an audio packet of a program with the smallest program number are selected from a plurality of the programs and decoded, or the transport stream is not decoded but video and audio data are muted and a warning indicating that reproduction is impossible is displayed.
