In the individual EL devices 3B, 3G and 3R, the functional layer is constructed with an identical layer and the optical distance L of the resonance portion 15 is set to various values so as to resonate in a blue, green or red wavelength region. The optical length L of the resonance portion 15 is adjusted by the transparent conductive layer 5 provided between the lower electrode 4 and the functional layer 6.
