    Abstract: PURPOSE: To enhance the dimensional stability and mechanical strength of a polyester film by setting the ratio of dynamic loss at specific temp. to a specific range. CONSTITUTION: The ratio of the dynamic loss tanδ at 95 deg.C of a polyester film is set to 1.05-15, pref., 1.05-1.4. When polyester is polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate, the dispersion peak of tanδ is observed in the vicinity of 95 deg.C and this dispersion peak is considered to be based on the motion of a naphthalene ring and, when the ratio of tank at 95 deg.C is within this range, the motion of molecules is restrained and the dimensional change by heat of the film and the deformation at a time of the reception of long-time stress of the film are hard to generate.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a film with a controlled surface form which is easy to handle, has high mechanical properties, and is free from coarse projections on the surface by making a core layer with a thermotropic liquid crystal polymer and the longest layer of the both sides of the core layer with a thermoplastic resin. CONSTITUTION:A core layer is made of a thermotropic liquid crystal polymer, and the longest layer of the both sides of the core layer is made of a thermoplastic resin. The layer thickness ratio of one side of the thermoplastic resin of the longest layer to the other side is arranged to be 1.0-1.5, and the core layer thickness is made 10-60% of the total thickness of a laminated film. The thermoplastic resin contains inorganic or organic particles with an average particle size of 10-2000nm. The fully dried thermoplastic resin and the thermotropic liquid crystal polymer are extruded with two or three extruders into a sheet with three or more layers so that a base is made of the thermotropic liquid crystal polymer of the core layer and the both surfaces of the longest layer are made of the thermoplastic resin. The sheet is cooled to obtain an undrawn film. The film is drawn by a method of uniaxial drawing, sequential biaxial drawing, or simultaneous biaxial drawing and heat-treated as required.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain uniform contact by forming a supporting body film in such a manner that the film has a laminer structure of two or more layers and the layer opposite to the magnetic surface contains particles, and specifying the relation between the average particle size (t) of particles and thickness (d) of the layer to 0.2 5d, the effect of fine projections on the surface is decreased and good traveling property of the tape is not obtd. By specifying the relation of the particle size (d) and thickness (t), projections of uniform height can be formed with uniform distribution on the surface opposite to the magnetic surface. When the film is processed into a magnetic recording medium, uniform contact state is obtd. between diamagnetic surface and rollers in a dye coater or the like, so that excellent dropout characteristics are obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To satisfy both high tear strength and an excellent dropout characteristic in using as magnetic recording medium service while high mechanical strength peculiar to ethylene naphthalate is being utilized. CONSTITUTION:In a polyester film which has ethylene naphthalate consisting of a laminated structure of at least three layers as a main component, intrinsic viscosity of polyester in an intermediate layer is at least 0.65, and intrinsic viscosity of the intermediate layer is higher than that of a front layer.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To impart an electromagnetic conversion characteristics to a surface of an outermost layer and a superior resistance to scraping to a surface of the other outermost layer to meet required characteristics for the surfaces at a higher level by specifying a relation between a particle diameter of a particle and a thickness of a layer in each of the outermost layers. CONSTITUTION:In a biaxially-oriented laminated film having a laminate structure of at least three layers, one outermost layer (layer A) contains particles of an average particle diameter which is 0.5-3 times larger than the thickness of the layer A, and the other outermost layer (layer B) also contains particles of an average particle diameter which is 0.2-2 times larger than the thickness of the layer B. Therefore, in a relation between a particle diameter of a particle and the thickness of the layer containing the particle, the particles contained in the layer B are relatively smaller than the particles contained in the layer A in particle diameter to a layer thickness. Namely, in the layer B, the particles are embedded in the particle-containing layer B deeper than those in the layer A, thus being securely held by the layer B. As a result, projections formed on the surface of the layer B are hardly scraped.
