    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film for a capacitor for allowing high productivity and processability, capacitor characteristics (withstand voltage) suitable for applications of a small-sized large-capacity capacitor.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title polyester film excellent in chipping resistance, windability, etc., by adding two kinds of microparticles of different mean particle diameters to a polyester and forming higher protrusions from smaller particles and forming lower protrusions from larger particles. CONSTITUTION:Two kinds of microparticles A (e.g., silica microparticles) and B (e.g., calcium carbonate microparticles) satisfying the relationship: the mean particle diameter of microparticles A = the height of surface protrusions ascribable to microparticles B are prepared. These two kinds of microparticles are added to a polyester and the mixture is formed into a film, which is biaxially oriented to produce a biaxially oriented polyester film. The obtained polyester film can be suitably used in the production of dielectrics for capacitors and electrical insulation materials as well as in the production of magnetic recording media such as videotapes.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title film having an average surface roughness and a surface protrusion volume parameter in specified ranges and suited as a base film of a magnetic tape excellent in running performance and low in drop- out, by stretching an unstretched film formed by forming a lubricant-containing polyester into a film. CONSTITUTION:An unsaturated film obtained by melt-extruding a dried pelletized polymer formed from a mixture of a polyester such as polyethylene terephthalate of an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-0.9 with a lubricant such as inorganic particles having a crystallization acceleration effect coefficient -3.0X10 , a surface hardness of 8-50gf/mum and a friction coefficient on at least either surface of 0.2-3.0.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title film of excellent abrasion resistance, containing specified particles. CONSTITUTION:1-15wt.%, based on particles, dispersant such as triethylammonium phosphate is added to a slurry obtained by adding particles of an average particle diameter of 0.05-2.0mum and a Mohs' hardness of 7-10 (e.g., particles of TiN) to ethylene glycol and boiling the obtained mixture for 12-48hr. The resulting ethylene glycol and dimethyl terephthalate are subjected to transesterification and subsequent polycondensation to obtain a polyester of an intrinsic viscosity of 0.60-0.93. An unoriented film obtained by melt-extruding this polyester is stretched in the machine direction at a stretch ratio of 3.0-4.0 and a temperature from the glass transition point of the polymer to its cold crystallization temperature, stretched in the crosswise direction at a stretch ratio of 3.2-4.5 and a temperature form the glass transition temperature plus 10 deg.C to the cold crystallization temperature plus 10 deg.C and heat-treated at 180-250 deg.C for 0.5-60sec to obtain a biaxially oriented polyester film of a film skin thickness of 100-300Angstrom as measured with a secondary ion mass spectrograph and a surface protrusion peak of 0.02-0.50.
