    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make uniform a laser regardless of the fact that the laser has transmitted through a toner layer or not by arranging a marking material and a light collector interacting with a photosensitive material on the surface of the photosensitive material, outputting an interacting light intensity signal and controlling irradiation of light onto an image region based on the signal.
    SOLUTION: A light collector 40 is arranged at a position where a part 12a of a beam 12 reflected on the surface of a light receiving body 18 is received. When the body 18 moves a short distance and the beam 12 is reflected not on the exposed body 18 but on a toner layer T, quantity of light being reflected to the light collector 40 is varied significantly because of difference in reflectance. When a light of level within a specified range is reflected to the light collector 40, a signal output corresponding thereto acts on a control system to alter irradiation (output level and/or pulse duration) corresponding to a light source 10 when the beam 12 is yet being directed generally to a concerned pixel region.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct color banding resulting from jitter between facets in a color imaging system. SOLUTION: A laser 104 is controlled by a modulator 122 such that the first scanning line of each raster scan color image is generated using same facet. It same number of scanning lines exist in each rasher scan color image, corresponding scanning lines of all images are generated using same facet. A scanning line offset required for matching respective raster scan color images correctly is generated using a cylindrical mirror 112 being driven through a piezoelectric element.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for reducing color banding due to shift between planes in a color electrophotographic system employing a plurality of polygons having a plurality of planes.
    SOLUTION: Planes of many polygons 100 are combined to minimize color banding in a composite image formed by combined planes. Formation of each latent image is started by a selected 'starting' plane such that each combined plane copies the matching scanning line of respective latent images thus registering the latent image. Positional shift of an image resulting from advanced or delayed of exposure of latent image required for starting formation of latent image from a correct plane is corrected by moving a cylindrical mirror for turning each polygon and the latent image is registered. Operation of the cylindrical mirror is performed basically by a controlled piezoelectric element.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive apparatus for correcting positional shift of a beam spot in a low speed scanning direction by vertically adjusting the position of laser beam, in a raster output scanning system. SOLUTION: A raster output scanning system 10 consists of a photosensitive image forming unit 30, a modulation type laser beam generating unit 13 for generating a beam spot toward the photosensitive image forming unit 30, a horizontal scanning unit 29 for horizontally sweeping the beam spot generated in the modulation type laser beam generating unit 13 so as to traverse the photosensitive image forming unit 30, and a vertical scanning unit 12 having the rotary mirror 15 adjacent to the modulation type laser beam generating unit 13 to perform the positioning in the vertical direction of the beam spot in the vertical developing direction of the photosensitive image forming unit 30.
